OK, so I think for the most part, most of us agree that a liberal arts degree, especially at Holy Cross is not designed to translate directly into career financial success. The Performing Arts Center is an impressive addition to the campus but when I read this, I went uh-oh! INVEST IN YOU: READY. SET. GROW.
Here are the 5 most valuable — and 5 least valuable — college majorsBottom 5 155. Clinical Psychology Median annual income: $49,000; unemployment rate: 3.8% 156. Composition and Speech Median annual income:$42,000; unemployment rate: 4.9% 157. Drama and Theater Arts

That's certainly true but I'm making an educated guess that the multi-millions being spent on PPAC wouldn't be for the students who are just dabbling in the arts and is intended to attract students who want to take the performing arts seriously.

My belief is that it is for both For example, HC has offered minimal ballet classes, but have had many students, females like my daughter or even males like Jave Meade, take those classes. The vast majority of those students will not become professional dancers, but having these courses could be an attraction to make HC desirable.

And as we know, at least one student wanted to know if she could "be premed and still play [her] violin."

My daughter was a Theater Arts Major at Holy Cross. She is of the opinion that it was a great major for a wonderful liberal arts education. How to present yourself and hold the attention of others is fundamental to many other fields of endeavor. She has prospered in a variety of non theater corporate job roles.

Way back in the day, IBM was looking for software engineers who could do what was then known as 'real-time programming'. Fifty+ years later, its the type of software programming that keeps Tesla from running off the road, or into other vehicles, etc., (most of the time). It was the type of software that guided the Saturn V to sub-orbital space. IBM was responsible for the rocket's Instrument Unit
A favorite major of IBM and NASA recruiters? Music majors. If you can write symphonies, you can write code.
HC's visual arts majors can take digital design and graphics, and there are classrooms and studios at the PCPA supporting this coursework.

I know many many psychologists including the one I'm married to, and they all make far more than 49K. Is this a nationwide survey?

Even as a starting salary, that is a foolishly low number.

Daughter #1 is a Holy Cross grad and a psychologist at the SLC VA Hospital. I believe the VA is the largest employer of psychologists in the world and I think they start in the high $80’s. My guess is that the survey covers people with a psychology undergraduate degree, most of whom do not go on to become psychologists.

I agree. Psychology majors, not psychologists. I probably posted of a boss I had who I knew was a math major. One day, we had a one-on-one over coffee and she says to me, "do you know what my major in college was?" I said, "yes, math." That set her back a bit and she said "yes, but I also majored in psychology" and then went on to ask questions that was a vain effort in amateur psychoanalysis. My immediate thought was "I was a history major but that doesn't make me an historian." But I took enough courses at Holy Cross to know I should keep that thought to myself.
A couple of years later, she had a mental breakdown while working in another section of the company in a meeting with the CEO. She went on disability and then she left the company.
So, yep, we aren't talking about psychologists who I personally have a lot of respect for.

Progress continues. I notice this morning (webcam) that all of the portable $hittahs are off the roof.
I also see white "smoke" rising from the roof. Either the heat is on, we have a new Pope, or better yet, maybe a new AD!

It would appear that they are doing mostly finishing work and landscaping on the outside. I am assuming that they've been working inside for some time and would be nice if somehow got a peek inside.

Let's get that professor who conducted that wonderful tour when the building was under construction to do it again in the finished product

BTW - Is the edge of the curb between the PPAC sidewalk and the new roadway really purple, or does it just look like that on my screen?

Good eyes but looks more blue than purple to me on my laptop but purplish on my desktop. But blue would make no sense. Didn't notice any color when I walked by there recently.

Just requested consideration of another inside tour of the PPAC. Let's see if it gets any traction.
