HC is 3-2 vs #191 schedule GT is 1-3 vs #234 schedule
Rushing Game GT averages 1.7 yards per carry-distorted, of course, by NCAA practice of subtracting sack t\yardage from rushing OPP average 5.2 yards per carry GT has rushed for 11 first downs OPP have rushed for 35 first downs
HC averages 4.8 yards per carry OPP average 3.4 yards per carry HC has rushed for 39 first downs OPP have rushed for 33 first downs
Passing Game GT completes 57% of passes, averages 6.8 yards/att, has been intercepted 5 times and sacked 15 times and has 48 first downs OPP complete 62% of passes, average 6.2 yards/att, have been intercepted 1 time and sacked 5 times and has 29 first downs Tidbit: GT's backup quarterback is Joseph Brunell, son of long-time NFL QB Mark
HC completes 56% of passes, averages 7.3 yards/att, has been intercepted 4 times and sacked 12 times and has 35 first downs OPP complete 57% of passes, average 6.3 yards/att, have been intercepted 8 times and sacked 13 times and have 53 first downs
I think HC will be able to move the ball very well on the ground against the GT defense. GT will likely rely on the passing game and HC will need to show that our D-Line can push around the GT O-Line and put pressure on the GT QB. Let's look for 5+ sacks and 2 interceptions

Georgetown is 1-3. They opened with a win over Delaware State (20-14) They then lost to Harvard (44-9), Columbia (35-24), and Colgate (28-21).

I think HC should be able to run the ball well against Gtown. However, I don't see any reason for 5+ sacks - unless they come from blitzing linebackers. Nothing has shown me to date we can put any pressure with the DL. It's not being negative before I get pounded for doing so. It's simply basing an opinion on the eye test with stats and facts to back it up.

(3) HC will build a strong lead and G'town will have to pass to try to catch up (4) Gtown's running game has been abysmal to date so we can defend differently that we do against good running teams.

All fair points. Those sacks mostly come from LBs - and they may be able to do that again from the LBs.

Maybe we don't score 40+ points but I expect us to dominate the line of scrimmage and open up holes on that side of the ball. Our offense greatly aids our defense when they can control clock and stay on the field for prolonged drives. This is probably the first time since 2009 that I am beyond confident that there's no way the Hoyas will steal one from us. I think this game is a good matchup for us and a bad matchup for Georgetown. Take care of business!

This is the story from the Georgetown site about their game with Colgate:
WASHINGTON – Despite outscoring the Raiders 21-7 in the second and third quarters to tie the game (21-21) going into the fourth quarter, the Georgetown University football team dropped its Patriot League opener on Saturday afternoon, falling 28-21 to the Colgate University Raiders at Cooper Field. With the loss, the Hoyas slip to 1-3 on the season while the Raiders improve to 2-3. ON THE RECORD "We spent all week trying to start faster, but we went down 14-0 to start so we'll keep looking at that," said Head Coach Rob Sgarlata. "I'm really proud of the kids, this is a really resilient group that keeps coming back. We're playing a lot of different people on both sides of the ball and I told the kids after the game I'm extremely proud of their effort and I'm proud of their week in practice. We can definitely build on these things. It's about the journey, it's about getting better and the scoreboard at the end of the game wasn't where we want it to be but we did some things that we'll build on as we go through the season." KEY STATS Pierce Holley finished 20-of-38, passing for 206 yards. Herman Moultrie III, Joshua Stakely, and Jackson Saffold all rushed for touchdowns, while Asante Das caught four passes for 43 yards. Joshua Tomas added 69 receiving yards on six catches. Justin Fonteneaux led the Hoya defense with seven tackles and a TFL. HOW IT HAPPENED Colgate jumped out to a quick 14-0 lead in the first quarter, but Georgetown started to find its rhythm on offense late in the first frame. At third and 17 to start the second quarter, Holley couldn't find an open receiver and ran the ball himself for a gain of 11, setting up a big decision for the Blue & Gray. GU got the first down to keep the drive alive as the Hoyas would go 74 yards on 14 plays, closing on Moultrie's 2-yard run for the touchdown. The Raiders extended the lead to 14 (21-7) again but a botched punt return for CU gave back possession to the Hoyas. With good field position, the Hoyas made their way down the field to set up Saffold's 8-yard run into the endzone. After the extra point, Georgetown had again made it a one-touchdown affair. The third quarter saw another scoring drive from the Blue & Gray as GU went 65 yards on 14 plays with Stakely carrying the ball in from the 1-yard line to knot the game at 21. Early in the fourth quarter Colgate scored on a 25-yard pass to go up 28-21 and that score would remain until the final whistle.

I know some fans can get frustrated by comments like the above (especially five games into the season), but Sgarlata has been at Georgetown as a player, assistant, and head coach for 30 years so he knows the landscape-- Georgetown doesn't get the players that teams like Colgate and Holy Cross do, and when the Hoyas fall behind, they don't have the talent to catch up. It's why Georgetown is 1-17 all time versus Colgate. This year's team is concerning because it has experience--18 seniors and 5th years are starters and the results aren't there, particularly on defense which is usually the best part of the lineup.

Considering Gtown isn't great against the run I'd start Sluka. But I would continue to get Siderman reps. Ultimately someone is going to have to throw the ball consistently against Lafayette and against Fordham in order to win those two games in my opinion. I'm not 100% sure on Lafayette's offense, but Fordham will score 30+ points.

Your weekly dose of history between Holy Cross and Georgetown The Cross is 21-11 all time vs the Hoyas One question what the heck is a HOYA? Was anybody at the snow game in 2011? Anybody remember the last time we played them? A few people might have ended up on the field after the game!

The word Hoya in Greek means What. Apparently one of the early Georgetown teams had a stalwart defensive line causing someone (student? sports writer? coach?) to exclaim Hoya Saxa, the Greek and Latin words for What Rocks! It seems that the Hoya part stuck. In any case, I defer to DFW Hoya to add to or correct my post.

Probably wouldn’t put that in the top 300 concerns for Georgetown football. There really aren't 300. In fact, of the ten factors needed to compete at this level, Georgetown has seven of them. 1. Name recognition as a university in intercollegiate athletics? Yes 2. Institutional support? Yes. 3. Coaching stability and reputation? Yes. 4. Recruiting good kids (as opposed to calls from the police at 3 am)? Yes 5. Training, conditioning and facilities? Now, yes. 6. Recruiting budget? Yes 7. Ability to attract and admit impact talent? No8. Brand reputation within college football? No9. Local and/or regional support? No 10. Players graduate and support the program going forward? Yes Of these the biggest drawback is #7. The PL rules are a considerable firewall to this regarding SAT ranges. A high band kid at Fordham or Bucknell is almost unrecruitable at Georgetown. The low band kid, forget it. As for Hoya: www.hoyafootball.com/history/hoia.htm

If they have institutional support, why is Georgetown the only PL school not to award football scholarships?

The word Hoya in Greek means What. He is on second. Who is on first. So when we sing “Give another Hoya.” we mean give another What ? On second Is ours just a different spelling or is it a different word entirely? Chu, Chu, Rah, Rah! Ring out then your Hoiah with A Chu, Chu, Rah, Rah, A Chu, Chu, Rah, Rah! A Chu, Chu, Rah, Rah! Give another Hoiah and a Chu, Chu, Rah, Rah! A Chu, Chu, Rah, Rah, for Holy Cross! March on as knights of old (With hearts as) loyal and true and bold, And wage the bitter fight with all your might, Fight hard for Holy Cross! You'll know when battle's done, (It was for) her that the fight was won, Oh, may it never die, that battle cry, On, on for Holy Cross!
