That is why Coach Chesney went after the officials to voice his displeasure. BAD move when officials do that. Another one he complained about was starting the play clock before the ball had been placed. Even the announcers. commented on that.

Yes. Since I was at the game wasn't sure what happened as to why official interfered with the play but have been watching the ESPN+ replay and still don't know. Happened at roughly 14:20 in the 3rd quarter. We are set and ready to go with about 16 seconds on the play clock. Official comes in and interferes with that to let #99 of GU slowly amble onto the field with the official's hands up indicating don't start the play. Clock runs down to 2-3 seconds and Chesney needs to call timeout and then uses the timeout to complain to the refs. If GU couldn't get their player on the field, too bad, play with 10.

OK, now that I've seen the replay, I just sent Bob Chesney an email asking him what the official explanation was. Not sure he'll respond as I know coaches are sensitive to the ban on criticizing officials. Hopefully, he can share an objective explanation but that was egregious.

He probably won’t respond because he’s, you know, busy preparing for Colgate.

It appears as if the Hoyas we're running 2-3 players on the field and the refs incorrectly we're holding up play

As I understand it, the rule is that if the offense makes a substitution, the defense is allowed time to respond with its own substitution. The official stops the offense from starting a new play until the substitute gets into position. On the play in question, the Georgetown sub moved into position very slowly (it seemed to me that it was intentional). To me, Coach Chesney had a legitimate beef that the refs allowed the play clock to run down so much.
If anyone knows a reason why my impression is incorrect, please feel free to tell me.

While I can understand that, the GU player was on the field but presumably not “in position” because he appeared to be “dogging it.” Ref should have stopped the play clock you’d think.
Whatever. It didn’t prevent us from winning big.

Gotta agree. I saw the FU QB pick apart SBU in person a couple of weeks ago and was very impressed. (Yes, SBU is down this year but they are pretty quick on D and did beat Delaware yesterday). We were preseason favorite... are we now?... too early to speculate? When you win back to back titles. Until somebody knocks you off you are still the favorite. Fordham is proven they are alright. Rams great linebacker out for the year is a tough loss. Honestly though who have they beaten Wagner? Bucknell All we can look at for comparable games. Monmouth Fordham lost by 3 Holy Cross won 30

I don't think anyone expected Holy Cross to lose, but the year off did not help Georgetown. Six yards rushing in 30 attempts is not a sign of progress.
Of concern to those in Washington: this team is made up nearly exclusively of seniors and 5th years, and the results have been something out of 2001, not 2021. At present this team returns one offensive starter for 2022 and three on defense.

I didn't check the GU roster but could have sworn the announcers said that the Hoyas were a very young team with many freshmen and sophomores starting and expected to be better as they gained experience in future years.

Sincerely hope for better days for GU f-ball.The PL benefits when all its teams are competitive & strong. I agree. GU could improve by more effectively massaging non-athletic scholarship athletic scholarships like the Ivies do. Basically, passing out a little more do-re-mi. Amazing the longevity of the GU head coach. I am in no position to criticize him. Georgetown being non-scholarship in FCS football muddies the water so it is hard to judge the coaching. It is easier to judge coaching of the other PL teams who have similar scholarship levels and generally similar admissions selectivity.

When Georgetown was one of the schools named in the Varsity Blues case it elevated their elite status in my mind. I figured if people were willing to pay large bribes to get their kids in, the school must be extremely desirable. But that still doesn't bring their resources close to HYP level.

/\ GU can’t afford to copy the Ivies (more generous financial aid across the board including athletes) and won’t go to athletic scholarships for football. Instead they are stuck in the old Ivy ‘grants in aid’ model without the benefit of a league of the like-minded.
I’d guess they’re more likely to downgrade football than either of those two alternatives.

Nice running by Oliver--you know that guy that one board expert believes to be slow Oliver actually has the Auburn HS record in the 55m and I think tbe outdoor 100m. Definitely not slow. Not sure who would've opined that but perhaps they meant hes not as quick laterally. More of a North-South power back but with after-burners. I recall seeing him boat race the Fordham secondary in our game there in 2019. First time I realized how fast he was indeed. Maybe he was a hair slow compared to Cozier at the time...

Most would seem a touch slow in that comparison.

Monmouth Fordham lost by 3 Holy Cross won 30 My thoughts: We are the favorite until they beat us. I am worried that the Rams are “due” to get us this year, especially at Jack Coffee. Though we do seem to play very well on the road. I also think the game is a bad matchup for us because we’re not the kind of team that can afford to fall behind early against a team like that, unless we win the turnover/special teams battle big time (which Chesney teams often do, thankfully). Fordham is much better equipped to mount a comeback with their league best QB and diverse offense. And IMO the PL is still a three horse race between us, Fordham and Lafayette (with all due respect to 2-0 Gate). Fordham has already cleared the first hurtle by way of their 42-41 win against the Leopards. So they have a leg up in that sense.

FYI: Oliver's hometown is Auburn, MA but he went to St. John's H.S. in Shrewsbury, MA and that is where he tied the 55m record..... ! from goholycross.com: HIGH SCHOOL: Played for head coach John Andreoli at St. John’s High School in Shrewsbury, Mass. Ran 36 times for 410 yards and five scores as a senior, despite playing in just five games due to injury. Helped lead team to the 2017 state title, with a three-yard touchdown run in the championship game. Rushed 102 times for 721 yards and seven touchdowns as a junior. Also lettered in track and field, running sprints. Tied the school record in the 55-meter dash (6.68 seconds). Member of National Honor Society.
