Tough loss for the fellas today…reminds me of 2019 team - followed 30-3 loss by win at Mercer! Chinstraps buckled ✅

Outscored 34-6 in the two games after 11-3 loss in game 2 Yes, it’s important that some of the new pitchers do well such as Neff today

Tough to find number of pitches anywhere but that easily could have been a 70+ pitch inning (17 batters x 4+ pitches per batter). He had a lot of walks and a few strikeouts so at least those were likely deeper counts. Guess the coach believes in letting him work through it but that is a long inning and probably not great for the arm of a Frosh making his first appearance of the year.

9-1 loss today so we come back home with 0-4 record being outscored 44-8 over the weekend - pitching staff with an elevated era of 11.25 Not really surprising given our young lineup and two of our weekend starters (Bryant and Chudy) not available

His outing actually was spaced out over two innings. He entered with one out in the fifth and faced ten batters in that inning, then seven the next. Only one walk the first inning, then four the second one (out of seven batters). Might have been a wise move not to bring him back for the second inning.

Some crazy scores in this first weekend of the season - how about Austin Peay scoring 3 on the 7th and 2 in the 8th to beat BC 18-17 (game shortened because of BC travel plans I'm guessing)

You’re correct that the game was shortened due to a travel curfew.

It was good weather but likely would have had to rent a field. Would HC even pay for that?

UNH amazingly has only three varsity spring sports - men’s T&F, women’s T&F, and women’s lacrosse. That is an amazingly low number for a so-called major university. Holy Cross, I believe, has 12 D1 varsity spring sports, as does Bucknell. My local high school has 10 spring sports, as do most of the other nearby high schools.

New Hampshire has no state income or sales tax so their residents travel to Mass. for essential services like baseball.

Based on every game in Division 1 baseball from opening night (2/18/22), it looks like Jack DiLauro (104 pitches) might have thrown the most pitches in the country (29% over the national average, which was 81 pitches on Friday night)
Below is a breakdown of fifteen Top 25 teams and seven New England teams who played Friday night and published pitch counts.
There wasn't one Top 25 program who had their pitcher go more than 100 pitches.
Notable teams: Bryant swept #12 East Carolina this weekend and their ace threw 76 pitches. Army's ace threw 64 pitches. Lehigh kept Luke Rettig in for 4 innings and 78 pitches in a 5-0 win over Davidson. For the record, Bryant who is the talk of college baseball coming out of this weekend had three starters on the weekend who went 76 pitches, 73 pitches and 78 pitches. Not one starter for the team that beat #12 East Carolina went over 80 pitches.

Lol.... he came into the game and went single, homer, single, single, single, single, walk, single... almost impossible to do
He started the second inning double, walk, walk, strikeout, walk, single, walk
You can't keep a kid in the second inning after he let up 8 straight guys to reach the inning prior and then starts the second inning double, walk, walk

We all love the results in football, but before we go from 60 -> 63 schollies, could we please recruit a couple of pitchers with scholly $, like we did way back in the Coach Hop years!

Seems like the combo of the Luth for year-round work and the very nice game day stadium would be solid positives for baseball recruiting but no tangible evidence of that in the recent results. Wondering if a new softball complex at the top of the hill will help that team or only serve to help with Title IX.

HC has the Luth Indoor Practice Facility. Roll in the batting cages, and drop the curtains for practice hitting.

I was down in Troy for the series. Going into the season I had fairly low expectations for the season, but despite the results, I’m actually a little more optimistic. Reasons: Troy looks to be a good team with a good young coach. They have a very short porch in RF (strong wind blowing that direction all weekend too) and their team is constructed accordingly with several lefty hitters and pitchers. Game 1 CF made a tremendous catch in first inning. If not game could have been different. Had numerous guys thrown out on the base paths, costing several runs. Hopefully that gets cleaned up as they get used to game speed. DiLauro and Bryant should be legit 1&2 in PL play. As hcbaseballalum pointed out, DiLauro going 6 innings was a surprise and had many people talking. Bryant should not be out an extended period of time. They have a few weekends with only 3 games, so they’ll have chances at series wins. The other top PL pitchers also did extremely well, so the team will need to be on the top of their game each series. The lineup is very young starting either 4 or 5 freshman, but I came away impressed. They seem to be very athletic and swung the bat well vs good pitching. The athleticism should help the defense tremendously, as they had a few big holes last year. Yes, a couple pitchers were hung out to dry and others played roles where they may not be in all season. Some of the kids with bad stat lines can be effective in relief roles, and there were others who did well. I’m not suggesting the team is going to content for the playoffs, but hoping they’ll be much more competitive as the season goes on.
