Final--UNM wins 7-2. Pretty good quality broadcast. The broadcaster actually did a bit of research on HC. In the top of the 4th, he rattled off a list of HC distinguished HC alums, starting off, naturally, with Dr. Fauci. Scanlon did a nice job in relief, although he gave up a long HR into the wind in left. Overall, I guess respectable performance for the weekend.

Salve Regina’s got 4 guys over 92. Bryant swept ECU in week 1. So much talent all over New England but we can’t get any of it. Any insight into why? Is it admissions?

Babson which has tougher admissions is probably a better comparison to Holy Cross as they just took two out of three at number 15 ranked Trinity (TX) after competing in the 2019 D3 World Series.

Exactly my point. So much talent locally. Why don’t we get the best?

Is it the quality of player that we get or is it the lack of development while at school? Every program that is at the bottom of Division 1 will need to "dig their way out" somewhat by developing the talent that they have. It doesn't seem like this far anyone has taken a huge jump other than Kirkpatrick who is a significantly better player than others. Nick Wang has six doubles in eight games as a freshman and looks to be a nice find. Last two freshman we got have jumped ship after good starts to their career (Malgieri & Latham). Sophomore Jake McElroy committed to HC Baseball in August of 2019 and really hasn't taken off in his career yet when a lot was expected.

Where did Latham go ? A pleasant surprise over the weekend was frosh catcher Andrew Whinney who hit a home run in his first career plate appearance in the first game of the dh on Saturday and followed that up with other hits - he could spell D'Acunto behind the plate during those 4 game weekend series

What are these kids thinking ? same route as Malgeri out of HC- to some obscure JC in the southwest Did Latham expect to be picked up by a stronger D.1 program over the summer and struck out ? I'd guess 'yes'

Exactly my point. So much talent locally. Why don’t we get the best? I dunno Snapper - wouldn’t Mudd, Wang and Peek qualify as three very local good kids? Obviously a reboot year but feels like we have a nice balance of good local kids with some select national kids.

I'd guess 'yes' Malgeri ended up getting drafted after his junior year. If that was the goal, then it worked out in his case. McKenna and Latham went the same route, but not sure they have the same tools

Holy Cross is better then any of those D3 teams in Massachusetts. This roster is very young but does have some talent. Kirkpatrick could make a case as the best player in the league.

Several of the Babson seniors have gone on to be graduate players in the ACC. Here is one that already has four appearances on the mound. bceagles.com/sports/baseball/roster/henry-leake/14598Dvorak (HC) who is also at BC hasn't appeared in a game yet.

The team has had conference pitcher of the week and several offensive players playing at an extremely high level. Why are players being called out and not the coaching staff?
The team had a winnable game vs Troy (Game 1) and NM (Game 2) in which there was a critical CS, costing them a run (plus the out) in each contest. Critical coaching decisions in a 1 run game, not to mention how the bullpen was handled in the NM Game 2

Then why are the players in D3 if they are so good? Doesn't make sense. I think this HC team will win more games then people think.

Then why are the players in D3 if they are so good? Doesn't make sense. it makes plenty of sense. To begin with, there are many athletes who prefer D3 because the time commitment is far less. And then there are many other athletes who didn’t get a D1 offer but then developed at a D3 school into someone who could easily play at the D1 level. In the NESCAC alone, there are hundreds of athletes who could be playing D1.

The offers you have are from NEC schools like Sacred Heart and Bryant. Conversely, NESCAC schools such as Williams and Amherst are showing a ton of interest and want you in their program badly. Don't you think going the D3 route is better? Do you believe the D1 badge trumps all else? The first team all NESCAC basketball players would, in all likelihood, see minutes on PL teams.
