Things I didn't know (or forgot) until looking up Pat Bourque just now: *Wusstah native *Once MVP of the AAA American Association *Traded for "Disco" Danny Ford Bourque was a very good DE on the gridiron. A special competitor who worked hard and spent time with the younger players to help us learn and improve

I just found an article: “bids sought to host first round of fcs playoffs”, so I think there is a bidding process for the 16 teams that play the first round before the winners go against the 8 seeded teams when was the article published ? 2021--maybe different procedure during pandemic year now that I think of it

HC is celebrating playing under the lights on Family Weekend in the first football game ever at Polar Park, as well as looking forward to the possible battle for both the Patriot League auto-bid and the Ram Crusader Trophy against Fordham. Colgate is merely undefeated in first place at 2-0. They won't be intimidated and have plenty on the line. Let's not look past them. Gate played ok against BC at the beginning. But they stink this year and have showed it game after game. Remember they hosted some playoff games at Andy Kerr which isn’t exactly Bryant Denny Stadium.

They'll be coming down the Turnpike(s) sitting on top of the league and determined to keep it that way. Regarding Andy Kerr, the PL stadiums are all adequate when you figure the cost of new stadiums these days and the fact PL teams generally have only five home games a year if they play one FBS game, and all games are streamed. Expanding to the full FCS scholarship would be a good investment, however.

Here is Colgate's "score" for each game, based on point differential, home or visitor, and the opponent's "predictor" number in Sagarin
24 @ bc----bc's predictor is 72.1 and Colgate lost 0-51 on the road which adds 3 points. 72-51+3= 24 18 vs Stony Brook 21 vs Wm & Mary 46 vs Lehigh 39 @ Georgetown 20 @ Brown 26 @ Cornell
Here is Holy Cross's
57 @ UConn 18 vs Merrimack 54 @ Yale 85 @ Monmouth 30 vs Harvard 60 vs Georgetown

Holy Cross doesn't have lights which actually hurts their ability to host games in late November.

There has always been a "bidding process" for the I-AA/FCS playoffs for as long as I can remember. To what extent there are any or many schools in the landscape that can't or won't comply with the list of requirements foley posted I don't know. Very rare that you see a team that doesn't to deserve a home game record-wise host a team that clearly does.
I do recall for years that UNH inexplicably never was able to get a home game despite stellar resumes that included 8-9 win seasons playing in the CAA, annual wins against I-A opponents and steady playoff success (though they never made it to a championship game). This finally ended about 8-10 years ago and they've frequently been the home team in the Round of 24 and/or Round of 16.

Pretty sure if it meant a chance for a playoff home game that HC would spring for the cost of temporary lights. I'm betting that some well-heeled alums would chip in to defray and/or cover the lighting costs. (And, no, if we get a playoff game, let's NOT do Polar Park regardless how nice it might be).
At this point, this is all counting chickens before they're hatched as we have a long way to go before we can even think of winning the PL again, which is the only way we are getting into the playoffs.

Why would the NCAA committee want a night game in New England in late November ?

There are no ratings for FCS playoff games (don't even register a blip) - in fact with the lousy weather, attendance is generally less than the regular season. This suggestion of a night game is silly. If we happen to get a home game in the first round, a noon start is just fine

Unlikely when there are western teams that could be on in those potential time slots . Has an eastern/ New England team played a playoff night game previously ?

Looks like only SRO tickets available for the game. Should be a great crowd.

So where are 70-80 players from each team getting dressed pregame, meet at halftime and shower/ change postgame?
Presumedly, Polar has normal home/visitor baseball locker rooms accommodating 28-30 players.
Any guesses?

After October 15th, very rarely that a night game in New England would provide a comfortable setting.
As much as I enjoyed going to High School games on a Friday night, when my son was in school and on the team, I no longer go to night games after mid October. Too Chilly!
However, I will go to a night game, even in November, at Fitton, once the new football stadium is built, that has a dome. 🙂

The Roman Coliseum? Saw it in-person! P.S. But they must have removed the football field before I got there 7 years ago. P.P.S. But really, the Orange Bowl? P.P.P.S. Didn't see the date until I clicked on the picture. Obviously NOT the Orange Bowl> Looks like Cruskater got it. Our only loss that year (8-1 record).

I wasn't suggesting that we should do a night game only that if some folks think we couldn't do it because of the lack of permanent lights at Fitton, that could easily be worked around. Guess I shouldn't have taken the Foley/longsuffering fork in the road! I fall back on the "we have a long way to go before we even think about hosting a playoff at any time."

I thought I was responding to Mr. Foley's obligatory note of an HC shortcoming. I don't think a night game in December makes sense, just noting HC has lights a mile away so that HC deficiency of no lights at Fitton isn't an issue anymore.

This game was THE 1-AA game in the Northeast for a stretch in the 1980s. Some incredible games between these 2 fine institutions back then. Remember catching the very end of the 1982 game on ABC as I believe the ALCS game somehow pre-empted much of it for some reason (rain delay?). Tough loss as they beat us on a long pass late. The 1983 game was one of the best games at Fitton in the 1980s....a 21-18 Sader W before 20K...Homecoming I believe.
This is a tremendous rivalry that is oft ovahlooked by some. Outside of the Ivies, no 2 teams in the Northeast have been playing one another at this level longer and more frequently than HC and Colgate I believe. (Lehigh and Lafayette were in the college division, D2 etc for much of the 20th C)
