The head coach was theIr highest paid state official. 4 assistants were also fired. I am sure there will be a court order blocking this move and a lawsuit to follow. I do feel bad for his athletes. FWIW the team is 4-3 and ranked 60th nationally.

There may be an attempt to secure a TRO to block the firing, although the coach has so far not indicated that he is going that route.

Apparently a few hundred other Washington state employees brought suit and sought a temporary injunction but were denied. The lawsuit will continue. Generally a TRO or temporary injunction will only be granted if certain criteria are met, including a reasonable likelihood of success on the merits.

I don't think lawsuits will go very far. Too much precedent the other way Not everyone would walk away from that kind of money to defend a principle

He was fired for not following a state mandate for state employees. Since he didn't follow the mandate, he was unable to complete his duties and was fired with cause.

I'd like to know what the general feeling of the players is: pissed off at the politicians; pissed off at the coach for not taking one (or two) for the club; some of each?
Seems odd he'd do that if there wasn't something else going on there, although the team is 4-3; any over .500 season for Washington State is a good one.

97% of students are vaccinated. How can they protest these firings. If a bus driver got fired for refusing to wear a seat belt or refusing to stop smoking while driving students, are any of his riders going to walk out of school? And a modestly paid bus driver would be a more sympathetic figure, imo.
Also a religious exemption may not work for a Catholic since the Pope is advocating for people to get vaccinated.

Must admit public health is a nuisance for some. I know. It’s not like the vaccinated are spreading corona and the mutations of it at all.

Interesting point. I don't know about Washington St, but many schools, HC being one, are requiring students to be vaccinated. Curious how players would react to this situation. Reasonable to assume in this climate that some percentage of the players didn't want the vaccine, but, assuming Washington St has a mandate for their students, took one for the team. If I made a "sacrifice" for the team, I might be annoyed if the coaching staff wasn't as invested as I was

Agreed, and additionally, if the coach has a simple breach of contract action, I am not sure why he would be entitled to an injunction, anyway. He has an ascertainable amount of monetary damages (value of his contract for its remaining term including value of benefits.) Perhaps if he is alleging religious discrimination he could get an injunction putting him back to work under some federal or state cause of action.

Must admit public health is a nuisance for some. I know. It’s not like the vaccinated are spreading corona and the mutations of it at all. From a public health perspective, the fact that some vaccinated people are contracting Covid and spreading the virus doesn't support an argument for not getting the vaccine. Consider this: 1. If you don't have the disease, you cannot spread it (including to children too young to get vaccinated, immunocompromised people for whom the vaccine is not as effective, and those who have joined you in not getting vaccinated.) 2. Unvaccinated people are three times as likely to contract Covid as vaccinated people since the Delta variant took hold. 3. Every person who is vaccinated reduces the possibility of transmission by 75%. These numbers aren't exact and there might be other factors to control for, but don't let perfect be the enemy of good--unless you don't like little kids, immunocompromised people, and other vaccine objectors. In fact, we know that big cats and gorillas can get Covid. Who doesn't like them? I don't know about those zebras who are on the run in Maryland. Maybe they are at risk, too.

Tom beat me to it but I think that was a slow, hanging curve ball thrown intentionally. Actually not, but if you go to Twitter and read what people are saying about these Zebras, there are lots of referee jokes so I should have expected the response. If you haven't seen this story, google Maryland Zebras. Of course, they have their own Twitter account as well. But if it was a curve ball, it was over the plate, just like the pitch that should have been strike 3 to Castro to end the top of the ninth tied last night. For anyone who missed THAT story www.espn.com/mlb/story/_/id/32434892/mlb-playoffs-2021-how-268th-pitch-became-defining-moment-alcs-game-4

Wow! That link, which I couldn't get through cause I don't care enough, looked like just too, too much overanalysis unless you are a baseball junkie. That's a vice that I kicked years ago after the MLB players' strike which now I couldn't even tell you what year that happened. Sometimes a fading memory is a blessing. But, apparently the Red Sox lost so my condolences to all their fans. I'm guessing the Mets and Yankees are out of it already.

Since this is Crossports, and we are infamous for going off the rails.... here is a question?
How do you pronounce the creature that looks like a horse, with black and white stripes....
Is it Ze-bra or Zeb-ra? i have heard both pronunciations recently. I have been listening to the BBC.🙂
Now back to the mundane....

Dopey Brits don’t know how to speak English! It’s Zee-bra, Who in their right mind would call an elevator a flat? I think you are mixing two terms Brits call an elevator a "lift". A "flat" is the Brit term for an apartment. Brit terms can creep into American English usage, a prominent example is "at the end of the day" has replaced the prior American "when all is said and done"

Absolutely correct. So intent on correcting their pronunciation that my typing fingers got ahead of my brain. Chalk one up for the Brits and their defender, KY. By the way, the Irish (Brits too?) don't say "watch your step," they say "mind your step." But, I digress.
