Many ways to look at this, here's one:
In the Holy Cross AD position announcement it states something I liked about HC being an integrated campus where one department supports all the other departments for one unified mission, or words to that effect.
Here you have Huggins taking the opposite view that two sports in the same department are competitors with separate interests and his sport should disrupt things for it's financial gain.
He sees power conference college basketball and the people who make money off it as in their own silo and adversarial with other sports in their own athletic department. I like the HC approach of all for one and one for all better.
Also Mr. Huggins should review the history of minor league professional basketball in the U.S. It isn't pretty. There would be a real danger much of the public would view his envisioned tournament as professional basketball especially with the stars making millions. Who wants to watch all paid freshmen line-ups in March?

Televise the games and they will watch.

I kinda remember some poster HC70 post about this happening years ago. He seemed to have a friend at George Mason tell him it was coming down the road. BTW has anyone heard or seen HCNJ?

I did not get a chance to speak to him, but HC70 was on campus last weekend and watched the beginning of the open basketball practice

People will watch, but will it be the same quantity of people?
I think the TV ratings for the tournament are largely driven by the millions of people following their brackets. The crazy upsets are part of what makes those brackets interesting. When Lehigh knocks off Duke and screws up everyone's brackets that is news. When the 6th team from the Big 10 knocks off Duke, it isn't nearly as big as a news story. Yes, if you put it on TV people will watch, but I really believe not as many. On the other hand, when HC gets two shares of the TV money for winning a play-in game, maybe the big boys think they will be better off not sharing any portion of a smaller pot of money. The article says that the current TV deal runs through 2032. Unless TV has some sort of escape clause of the power conferences pull out of the tournament, that is a lot of money to walk away from

The reason why football is such a cash cow relative to basketball is because the value of regular season TV contracts is so much higher. Creating a "P6-only" national tourney will not solve this problem. It will only increase their share (to 100%) of a hugely shrunken pie. If this format ever took place, I think you'd see similar ratings for the Final Four but the early rounds would see peanuts.

I always hoped to have a chance to take him up on that offer. If he is reading, I would like him to return and would be happy to represent him in a petition to the Dean to allow his readmission.

I went to a couple of games with him here in the DC area, one @ American and one @ George Mason. Alas, I drove by myself both times.

Bob Huggins advocating for this is the best argument for it never happening. Do the opposite of what Bob Huggins says and the sport will be fine.

As for the digression on HC70 and Sarasota, I plead guilty for starting it but thought it was obvious that I meant it as a joke. HC70 is a Classmate and I know he still semi-regularly attends HC athletic events and don't believe he, or anyone, is barred from being a lurker here. I am sure he's doing just fine without the sometimes contentious discussions we have here.
Sarasota? What can I say? Hopefully, God's watching over him. Oh, I take that back as I forgot he's a proud atheist. Anyway, 'sota, wear a mask and get a vaccine jab as none of us are getting any younger.
