R.I.P, Father Lapomarda. I have mentioned on these pages before that Father Vin grew up in my neighborhood, that my mother baby sat him , that his father was my barber, etc. I never had him in class but had a couple of rides to/from Portland with him as a student. Nice man.

What a sharp guy he was- have heard many stories of grads in their 40s and 50s who he would spot at some event and call them by name.
And a fine educator too, he knew how to present material so that he didn't dwell on his own point of view, made the student think about how to present his/her opinion.

I took two of his classes and he was my advisor as well. Years later, he would occasionally drop me a line. He was a very good guy..RIP

Funny, I literally just read that too. I was talking about hitchhiking recently and how you very rarely see it done anymore. My Dad actually hitchhiked from Milton to Maryland sometimes in med school in the '50s. I hitchhiked from Worcester to Mattapoisett (forget why lol) once in the '80s. Also saw in the current HC mag that Prof. Kealey (History, Medieval was his specialty I believe) had passed on sadly as well. Quite a guy, actually left HC after about 20 years there to become ordained as a priest. Used to greet me with "Hello, scholar..." If he only knew

HC even had foot long cartoon hitchhiker stickers we could attach to our suitcase. I once hitched to NYC and from there to see JFK's grave in Arlington. After seeing Bill Cosby in DC, I sprung for s bus ticket to get back home. Hitching is just too much work.

Thank you KYCrusader75 for your letter to Holy Cross Magazine remembering Father Lapomarda- great man! I haven't seen the magazine yet. I'm wondering if they edited out the part where Father Lapomarda stated that I was "the finest scholar ever seen at Holy Cross"?

Ironically, Prof Kealey tried to convince me to become a Jesuit. Fortunately for the jesuits and me, he was unsuccessful. Which HCMag was this in ?

I'm guessing that there is a new edition of the magazine that has reached some mailboxes but not yet all.
