As I posted before, one senior told me he's definitely staying for his 5th year. The other said he's not sure yet.
Here's the thing, I am not sure when the deadline would be for a senior to decide but pretty sure it won't be this Saturday. So, what's a "fence-sitter" supposed to do? If he takes a walk with his parents, that means he can't come back? I think he could get over any embarrassment.
I think the ones who are coming back know at this point. At least most of them do. The ones who know they’re coming back shouldn’t do Senior Day this year. Will be interesting to track which seniors don’t participate.
At least some of those who know they are coming back may want to celebrate this week’s senior day with their four year classmates/teammates.
Maybe that’s the way they do it. I just don’t think they do it twice. If they walk this year and not next as fifth year seniors, that works too. I’ve never really paid attention to it before but we’ll all know this year. If all listed seniors walk, I suspect the ones who return for a fifth year will not walk next year.
Also, happened to be sitting in a different place because my 50 yard line seats were in the shade and the cushions had a coating of frost on them. Yeah, it was that cold pre-game. Moved down to the 40 yard line where the sun was hitting and more comfortable and that happened to be behind Kreimer’s extended family.
Asked the father why his son changed his jersey number 3 times in 3 games. He chuckled as if he thought it was a bit much. The answer is that he was listed on offense as a wide receiver, hence #81. They switched him to defense as corner back and they gave him initially #14 which he said was a QB “who wasn’t going to play” (coincidentally I am pretty sure he did play today at the end - Wiegel). They then gave him jersey #0 and guess that’ll remain his number for the rest of the year.
Sorry, for the most part I was catching up with friends and only paid attention to the two players who had contact with me.
Besides, I thought you were the guy who "knows a guy." [One of the guys I was talking to, I specifically mentioned this senior honors question and that I thought you might have the inside scoop]
So without divulging who, the one senior wrote specifically:
"Thank you! We’re very excited about this week and looking to bounce back from last weeks performance. I do have another year of eligibility left, but I’m not sure what I’m doing with it yet." and he walked.
The other player wrote:
"Thank you for reaching out Mr. XXXXXX, it is amazing to see the support from all of our alumni! Luckily I will be returning next year for one more season with the team!"
He didn't walk today.
Oh, bonus tidbit, Dobbs said he's coming back "100%" and even though he's a junior, it's good to know that his success isn't going to his head and thinking transfer portal to FBS.
