I would expect the Chesney to UMass rumors to officially begin. IMO - that would be a terrible career move for Chesney.

With no place to go after the conference jockeying of the past weeks, UMass Board should meet and make the tough decision to ask the CAA for the slot that JMU just vacated - it’s over for the FBS experiment

^ $628,750 for an FBS head coach seems light.

Holy Cross is a better job than UMass right now. Ches would be a fool to pursue for anything other than leverage to get a new contract from HC. Although, until we get a new AD, anything is possible…

UMass Athletic Director should be fired if he doesn't at least talk to Chesney. Chesney is well-known and well-liked by Massachusetts high school coaches. A must for UMass. They absolutely need to start keeping a larger percentage of the in-state MA talent local.
UMass would pay Chesney probably triple of what HC pays him.
Chesney's family wouldn't have to move.
This won't be the last job with his name rumored for .... he's going to be wanted this off-season.

Please Chesney I know you probably want to coach in FBS. I also know you would do a great job! Throughout your whole career you have won everywhere.
Just don't go to UMASS! They proved they don't care about football at all. They are trying to be an independent. We saw Bell take a shot at the administration a few weeks ago with conference realignment. There will be better opportunities then this disaster.

The Umass job w/the status quo of their program, is not viable. What else is there to say about it, Chesney interest or not?

No financial support, terrible facilities, etc. People said same about Holy Cross job. No administration support, crappy league, etc. Coaches like challenges...especially this one.

I think Coach Chesney is a very smart man and will recognize that a move to UMass would not be in his interest. Sure he likes a challenge but would he accept the challenge to box a young Mike Tyson?

I'd imagine Liam Coen will be on the short list.

This is where the Board should attempt to end speculation and increase his salary and the staff salaries by 50% for next year, and then allow the next AD the opportunity to try and renegotiate a longer term contract

The Minutemen fire Bell and ring their rifles. They can't do anything right.😊 The halftime interview on Saturday with the HC FB strength and conditioning coach provided a hint of the speculated about tension between the FB staff and FADMB. The coach was positive about everything HC football but he took a little jab at the "budget" in one of his answers.
I'd like to see President Rougeau "quarterback" this issue. Phreek's insightful posts paint the athletic budget as bureaucratic with spending decisions set months and years in advance, with the chairman of the BOT athletic committee being the real "quarterback" and the President, and the rest of the BOT generally going along.
But right now by default HC FB, while still being a complimentary student activity to the main academic mission, is the front window of the school. We aren't zooming up the rankings in USNWR and we aren't getting positive publicity with our other sports (although Mens Soccer is having a good year) so it would be great if the President/CEO could make a fully informed decision about how much HC should spend to reward and retain excellence.

Has he really accomplished anything here yet? He's basically just getting started. The team seems to be headed in the right direction but there was nowhere to go but up.

And if he departs now I bet, unfortunately, we rapidly reverse our direction and the opportunity to build a winner

Are you talking about President Rougeau or Coach Chesney? Coach Chesney has accomplished a lot with two PL Championships. hasn't he?

long:
Only at Holy Cross would we say a team with a .500 record was having a good year. We missed a bye if we had only won the last game. We lost. Instead, we had to play AWP in the first game . . . . and lost. Season over.

Im not overly impressed with winning the horrid PL the last two years. Last season was just glorified spring practice. We've had a couple of good wins this season but still are not FCS top 25 material. If he were to leave within the next 3 years I would have no respect for him. HC gave him a big break. He owes it to HC to take them as far as he thinks he can.

If you're not impressed by what you see on the field you're a tough nut to crack.
