Massey makes HC a 6 point favorite over Georgetown (20-14).

Ummm, wasn't the plan for the PL to get bettah with scholarships? Some of the programs in the PL are significantly better than pre-scholarship teams. Some others not so much. Your attempt to hide behind or attack the PL is getting old.

We really torpedoed Harvard in the rankings and are probably singularly responsible for ruining the Ivy ranking overall in Massey and Sagarin ratings.

I beg to diffah...Lehigh has a nice team this year, but they also lost to Monmouth earlier...I think the PL is a bit bettah here and there but not significantly so post-scholarship so far. I think we (as a league) can collectively get bettah but it's still a work in progress.

A summary of where each school has gone with scholarships so far:
1) Fordham -- Years 1 and 2 for them were bumpy, including a loss to Assumption, a 1-10 season and a complete demolition at West Point in their first FBS game. But, by Year 4, they were a PL juggernaut and have won two FBS games. Three straight playoff appearances and two at-large bids which is great for the league. However, they have yet to advance past the Round of 16 -- program's high-water mark was in 2002 when they made the quarters.
2) Lehigh -- a perennial top-25 team as a non-scholarship program, still a top-25 team. This postseason may be the true test to see how far they've come and if they've advanced the standard.
3) Colgate -- Would have to win a NC to surpass their non-schollie high water mark but no doubt repped the league very well last year with two playoff wins. The wins over UNH and JMU would indicate the bar has been raised (aside from '03, 'Gate was a paltry playoff team) but still losing to mediocre Ivies as they always seem to have done.
4) Bucknell -- Treading water. One nice season in 2014 but aside from that, more of the same mediocrity we come to expect out of Lewisburg. Perpetually destined to be on par with VMI?
5) Holy Cross -- Any signs of life that have given us hope are quickly dashed by inconsistent performances and heartbreaking losses. TG quite simply has not been able to get us over that hump to the next level. We were hoping that scholarships would be the thing to push him over it but that has not happened. More of the same.
6) Lafayette -- They've gotten worse. Tavani needs to go more than any coach in the league. Maybe it's not all about having the best facilities....
7) Georgetown -- A bellweather. They were the doormat in years past and have actually improved a little bit relative to the rest of the league while remaining the only non-scholarship member.

Unlike most other members of the PL, H.C. has a very painful "institutional identity crisis" going on right now not limited to-but certainly encompassing everything it's attempting to do in intercollegiate athletics. The other PL schools are flourishing with identities that fit their institutions, despite not reincarnating themselves as the imagined world beaters from the past. hc87, you've needlessly maligned the PL to make many of your points. Collectively, the arrogance underlying the points are as contrary to reality as your assertions themselves. To insightful readers, your frustration clearly is with the H.C. institutional malaise or your distorted memory relative to the world as it actually is today.. The PL is either your whipping boy and/or your camouflage fir hiding your disgrace. ( On the one hand...."It's the PL's fault," "the damage of the non scholarship years," "playing names no one in New England recognizess," etc etc. On the other hand, "The PL, in aggregate isn't doing that well"," PL football is good for H.C. because we can go out and cream other big teams around the country with the other 5-6 non-league games," etc. etc. ) I feel so bad that both the PL and you have sabotaged the institution yet again. H.C. deserves better.

If you factor in the most up-to-date recruiting data for the class of 2021, it's clear that these three teams are moving into a different echelon relative to the rest of the PL. And, they're in sync with a future scheduling pattern that has already unfolded, very stable coaching staffs and, for the most part excellent and realistic institutional and alumni support that has been in place for decades. ( IMHO, for what it's worth, I see Lehigh (which is not my team ) making a run of two rounds into the playoffs this year. ) .................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................. 1) Fordham -- Years 1 and 2 for them were bumpy, including a loss to Assumption, a 1-10 season and a complete demolition at West Point in their first FBS game. While PL football will never be high end FCS football, it can be what we want it to be, competitive well played games both within conference and against Ivies and other similarly situated small eastern schools. Our problem with PL has been holding on to CTG for at least two years too long. We should be well within our rebuilding process by now. Unfortunately, we will be in the midst of a coach search and a new football identity for the next few years. I am hoping that the new coach can turn things around quickly. It is difficult to blame ADNP who had his hands full with basketball which may have prevented him from acting on football as quickly as he would have liked.

I feel strongly--and expressed this at the time--that ADNP did not think it wise to whack both Coach Milan Brown and CTG at the same time. I think he knew that CMB absolutely had to go but that CTG had an (outside) chance at turning things around
