The article includes numerous pictures from the game including one with 5 NU players taking a knee at the playing of the National Anthem - Must say, that's the first time I've seen that at the Hart HC WBB improves America by spending election day at Girls Inc. mentoring less advantaged youngsters. I applaud that gesture.

...many of the players are not D1 players. HC is a D1 team and every player on it is a D1 player. They did not show real teamwork and that is more important than height alone. Can we drop the ""not D1" crap for a while?

This team has been through a lot. Three coaches in four years, being suited up for the PLT at Bucknell and watching the Manis era end unceremoniously by Covid, etc. But I thought the days of players or assistant coaches vanishing without a word of explanation was in the past. The team looked unsettled by something so I am giving them a Mulligan.

Telling stats NE- 21 points off 25 HC turnovers HC- 5-11 from 3 12-32 from 2 Why not attempt more 3s ? Was their D running us off the 3 point line ? FT -6-16

Telling stats NE- 21 points off 25 HC turnovers HC- 5-11 from 3 12-32 from 2 Why nat attempt more 3s ? Was their D running us off the 3 point line ? FT -6-16 HC didn't whip those straight fast passes around the horn that end up with an unfettered look. The passing was labored and often caused the teammate to have to stretch to snare it away from a defender or it resulted in a turnover.

We did way too much bad passing. At some point they should have shot sooner and more frequently rather than look for the passes.

If you can't make the simplest pass to the post or the wing, you're never going to create the mismatch and/or open person to get off a good outside shot. Only other way is off the dribble, and HC doesn't have the personnel outside of maybe LaBarbera, for that.

If her highlight video is any indication, Grace Munt can make a jump shot off the dribble. And she will be the first one with that ability on this team since Lauren.

I enjoy those tic-tac-toe plays that involves the whole team moving the ball with purpose and the ball ending up with a shooter who has time to set and release. The fan gets the sense the offense knows where the play is going and the defense is just reacting.

Surprising not to see a clear identity on offense since this group was together last year. But, it's the first game so plenty of time to get there. Coaching is more of a factor this season since most/all teams (fingers crossed) can and do practice regularly with their staffs when last year it was hit or miss, sometimes missing a week or more. Is this a positive or negative for this team? I leave it to the board....

At your suggestion, I did just that and her record is pretty good. She's not Pat Summitt or Geno or Muffet but she has a decent record as a coach and an even better one as a person, so what's your point?

We have a 5'7" guard, too, Avery. Let's see who scores more tonight. I'm less worried about a guard beating this team than a big. Soriano scored 12 (same as Avery) with six assists and three steals while being a +27.

Confirmed with a most reliable source that Kerry Flaherty is off the team this year voluntarily but is still at Holy Cross. Not injury related. She is a junior so not sure she’ll return next year to the team. As a junior, her experience might have helped against the Huskies the other night. She was the best pure shooter according to Coach Magarity. Perfectly fine but unusual to take a year off. Clamming up about it makes it seem like something is amiss when it isn't. Perhaps the daily practices for seven weeks in the summer burned her out. HC's play didn't seem to benefit from that grueling regimen.

I guess everyone is cautious about possibly violating privacy. Better to let the fans figure it out. There doesn't have to be any issue, just a priority choice of how to use one's time in college. It just reminds me of instances in business when someone left it was often treated as a state secret so it wouldn't spread to others, like leaving was a communicable disease. I prefer a straightforward disclosure of roster changes myself.

I feel like a school's lack of transparency (even about routine issues) is in the long run much more damaging to its reputation that whatever issue it is that they do not want to disclose. There are certainly ways to update the community without disclosing someone's private business. A school that feels otherwise shows very little respect to its community, fans, alumni. It's more than reasonable for a student to want to take a year to re-charge especially given the stressors of the last 24 months. Doesn't seem like something to try and hide if indeed that is the case.

Kerry shot .481 overall and .421 from behind the arc last year. The team shot .382 and .296
She will be missed.
If anyone remembers Ray Allen on the Celtics when he was no longer the number one scoring option, it was great to see the Celtics whip the ball in and out, all around and when the defense collapsed fire it to the corner where Ray was set to catch and release a trey all in one smooth motion. That happened with Kerry a few times, not enough to change the season but it was good when it worked.
