Absolutely. I am not a veteran, but my father (and millions of his generation) was, a career officer in the Coast Guard who, as 20 year old, found himself on convoys to Russia across the North Atlantic. Deep gratitude to all who have served and all who currently are.

I was an MP at Fort Meyer/Arlington Cemetery in 73-74 and assigned to the Honor Guard for all ceremonies at the Cemetery and in the surrounding MDW - a true honor and special memories

Thanks to all our veterans.
There are many wonderful organizations that honor and support our veterans. One charity that I have supported for several years is Bugles Across America, started maybe 20 years ago by a man named Tom Day who believes that all veterans should have a live bugler to play taps at their interment.

That sounds like a most meaningful charity. The bugles with a recording hidden inside are just not quite the same. A relative of mine died and at his funeral there was a live bugler along with two NCOs and an officer (with sword). After the service, I asked why there was such a tribute (since our NY Guard unit had to fire a salute for a two star general's funeral in NYC (with no one official Army representatives in attendance). The officer asked me is I knew what my relative had done in WWII. I said I was aware he was connected to the MPs. I found out that from before D-Day until after the armistice was signed, he had been in charge of General Eisenhower's security. The officer said, "We owed him so much that this funeral party to honor him was the least we could do." Amazing the stories often go untold in the lives of so many veterans.
This week was also the birthday of the Marine Corps. Another most fitting time for honors and a strong SEMPER FI! May all veterans know they have the thanks of a grateful nation...and mine as well.

Like many, I was in the draft lottery. By dumb luck I got 264 so I knew I wasn't going to be drafted. A close friend enlisted and saw a year of combat in Vietnam. The stories he told were horrific.

I enlisted (and then attended Officer Candidate School) shortly after graduating. I was lucky enough to pull a wonderful three-year tour in West Germany with the 3rd Armored Division near the close of the Cold War. Years later I served a (much) less pleasant tour in Afghanistan just after the opening of the War on Terror. Lots of memories, a few stories, and (all things considered) no regrets.
The Veterans Day ceremony in my town included a superb rendition of Taps by two local high school buglers.
