The best I could do was to sign up for something like a 6 month on-line subscription to the T&G as I think they had a sale for $1. Definitely worth it. I also signed up for the on-line subscription of the T&G, because they have articles on Holy Cross. In addition, I always do their daily crossword puzzle.

First PL team to win three straight league championships since Lehigh, going back to Pete Lembo and Kevin Higgins.

We have won our last 5 games by 34, 32, 19, 25, 28. The last time we won 5 in a row by such margins was 1989 when we won the last 5 by 25, 26, 33, 39, 29. If we beat Bucknell by 19+ I'll have to go further back.....
In 1990 we won the last 4 by 29+ and the last 9 by double digits.

Worcester is about 45 miles from Boston, but the Globe, at least in my edition, had a one sentence mention of HC's victory buried toward the back of the sport page. It amazes me that a third consecutive PL title by a MA FCS school doesn't mention a story in the Globe. It's as if life doesn't exist outside Rt. 128. It was one sentence but it was a long sentence with two commas, at the end of the College Football Notebook. Also had a full box score of the game. The Globe covers BC a lot, Harvard some and everyone else not much. They do a great job with high school sports, however. Maybe Shaughnessy will write something.

When Dr. Eddie Anderson was coaching, Boston had seven or eight daily newspapers and the Telegram and Gazette had separate sports staffs, the clatter from typewriters in the Fitton Field Press Box must have been something.

One thing about the Duffner era that I hope isn't mirrored under Chesney: Not winning any playoff games. Time to get that monkey off our back. If we play like we did yesterday, I think we beat a team like URI and would beat SHU by double digits.

The 86 and 87 teams both would have won multiple playoff games if given the opportunity.
I've said/posted this before but every game in '87 was effectively ovah at halftime. Not just comfortably ahead but in front so much, you knew the game was done.

The O and D lines in the second half were totally dominant. They set the tone of the game totally changing from the tie at half time to our control. The team on the sidelines were so vocal to spur on the lines for each successful possession

Super random but somehow I went down an internet rabbit hole and was reading the press clipping from this game about 5 minutes ago. I think the 1987 team would have made it to the I-AA title game in Chattanooga, or Huntington, or wherever it was at that time. Absolutely both would have won multiple playoff games....at a time when the field was 8 teams.

Not just comfortably ahead but in front so much, you knew the game was done. In retrospect that was one silly and shortsighted administrative decision. I guess we were doing the Ivy copycat gesture and thank goodness we've outgrown that particular one. (nycrusader2010 - In '83 there were 12 teams and we [the #2 seed under Rick Carter] got a bye in the first round and lost to the eventual national runner-up by 7 in the 2nd...may have been the same 12 team format a few years later)

The Army game ended up deceptively "close" in '87....as you noted, it was 27-3 at half and 34-10 very late (after we took off the gas as well)...they scored 2 late TDs against our reserves.

In the unlikely case we play in the championship game.
"No President Rougeau, you won't have a view of the Golden Gate Bridge from your hotel room. It's Frisco, Texas."
We would have to have solved the issues raised in the beatdown by Harvard to advance very far. Have we really improved that much or have the defenses we've faced in the winning streak been that poor? I think the PL defenses have been poor but HC has also improved after only four games and limited practice last year. So I'm not putting any ceiling on the Crusaders.

Comparisons are usually of limited value....but we crushed Monmouth who, earlier this year, totally dominated eventual Champion Sam Houston State and lost 21-15 (top 40-20, 400+ offense to <200).

Comparisons are usually of limited value....but we crushed Monmouth who, earlier this year, totally dominated eventual Champion Sam Houston State and lost 21-15 (top 40-20, 400+ offense to <200). And those of us who attended the South Dakota State game will tell you that, while there was no way we were going to win, HC belonged on the field with the Jackrabbits. We hung with them in the trenches. What makes us better than last year as a playoff team is our weapons at the skill positions. We're deeper at tailback this year. And Ayeni, Asante and Coker make a load of difference downfield. Our best weapon at wideout in the playoffs last year was Spencer Gilliam -- solid player by any imaginable stretch but asking him to be WR1 against #1 in the nation was a tall order. If Sluka can throw the ball as well as he did at Fordham, our offense should be able to put points on the board. Defensively, our biggest "weakness" would be the secondary. DeMorat in the first half yesterday showed that with accurate downfield throws, we can be had....to an extent. But in general comparative scores can be one heck of a double edged sword. Example: HC lost to Merrimack by 14. Merrimack lost to Central Connecticut 49-14. Central lost to DII Southern Connecticut State. Come to think of it, I'm sure in 40 years the players on that SoCon team will use that flowchart to describe to their grandkids how they were better than UConn that year. Of course those grandkids might at that point in time respond, "UConn used to have a football team? Where did they play -- did they use that stadium in East Hartford where we went to the monster truck rally last year?"
