Watching yesterday's game, the announcers remarked there was still standing water on the field near the Holy Cross sideline, and they had no explanation for why it hadn't drained.. Well, they did actually, they opined the field surface is uneven and there were shallow depressions, here and there. They also said that during the suspension of play, squeegees were used to push water off the surface. The standing water made the surface as slippery as a skating rink. They also noted that the surface remained so wet that the Fordham QB would take the ball and dry it with his own towel.
I recall that the announcers also said the surface was like playing on concrete; i.e., there is no cushion, and the 'fibers' have either worn away or are matted down. I have watched two games on that field this year, and I have yet to see rubber crumbs being kicked up. Crumbs are used for cushioning.
If the rain hadn't quickly stopped, the wet surface might have become truly unplayable, with players slipping and sliding as Oliver did on a pass play.
This field was installed in 2014, and is used for football, soccer, softball (outfield), and intramurals. It needs to be replaced, or re-conditioned, because it simply is a terrible field in its present state.

I'm sure if you made a large donation to Fordham, they'd be happy to replace the surface and maybe even re-name it "Phreek Field" (has a ring to it, doesn't it?).

Football is to be played in the elements. Period.
That being said 90% of the high school football fields in Massachusetts are better than Jack Coffey Field.

Definitely did not look to be in good shapes on the TV broadcast. But 7 years seems like a pretty short life for a turf field. It may also be used as a practice field for a lot of sports given the limited amount of field space at Rose Hill. That would shorten the life quite a bit.

Fordham Prep plays their home football games there. It's also the home soccer stadium for the Rams. The prep definitely only plays football GAMES there as they have their own practice field up Southern Blvd. Jack Coffey has had turf since sometime in the 2005-2006 academic year. I seem to remember the HC game in Fall 2005 being played in a mud bowl on grass. But I played my last HS baseball game on that field in spring 2006 and it was definitely all turf at that point. So I guess it was "re-turfed" in 2014. Not sure what brand it is but quality of the surface just appears to be a lot less forgiving and a lot more slippery than the majority of the FieldTurf venues you see in both the collegiate and HS levels. Unrelated to the surface itself but it also bugs me that the end zones are completely blank with no FORDHAM block lettering or logos of any kind.

Jack Coffey Field has two problems: 1) the turf is visibly worn and this leaves a sheen on the field when seen at a distance, and 2) the infill is gone, which can make it play hard and (likely) slippery.
Some infill surfaces can be refreshed (think of a carpet that is washed and pops back up) but I think that turf is too old to do much with.

The Soccer lines near the end zone line confused the announcer. The scoreboard saying second and two instead of second and goal confused him, too. But these small imperfections are a trade off to play against great schools in the PL. Would love to see Fordham sneak into the tournament at 7-2 in FCS.

The baseball portion of the field looks a hell of a lot better than the football part. The two turf fields in my town were installed in 2012; this is the first season where they're starting to show their age; both of them are in better shape than Jack Coffey.

The die was cast when Lehigh, out of the blue, gave Fordham all they could handle. One side of the ball is not championship caliber.

Only shot for Fordham to get in at 7-4 is if URI, William & Mary and Northern Iowa all lose next week (probably and then some)-- and Monmouth wins. If Monmouth expectedly loses to Kennessaw State next week, no way you could give Fordham an at-large over a Monmouth team they lost to head-to-head. 6-5 Northern Iowa gets in before 7-4 Fordham IMO.

But, I appreciate your knowledge and obvious love of Fordham. It is a great place. As a newly located Bronx Boy from the 'burbs I am looking forward to learning more about my forgotten borough in NYC. We are waiting for the pandemic to subside and the weather to warm. '67

The die was cast when Lehigh, out of the blue, gave Fordham all they could handle. One side of the ball is not championship caliber. To be fair, I think this surprising result taught us more about the improvements made by the Engineers than it did about Fordham. But no doubt the Ram defense is far below what would be described as "championship caliber".

What, "forgotten borough?" Wouldn't that be Staten Island (Richmond county) which I am sure at least 50% of New Yorkers think is part of New Jersey. Well, maybe not now with all this Pete Davidson news and Colin Jost (I'm sure Scarlett hasn't moved there!). Is Staten Island an SNL thing?

Saint Francis Xavier to you!! What? Do you come from the Sarasota school of atheists? By the way, what ever became of ‘sota? I thought there was a hurricane down his way and he buttoned up and we never heard from him for quite a while but he resurfaced briefly and told us he was ok. Anyone hear from him?

The universe is moving to its proper alignment. HC rules the roost in PL football. If we could win championships in m&w basketball, baseball and m&w hockey everything would be in almost perfect alignment. Now, we need the Yankees to return to their preordained championship glory for everything in God's universe to be in perfect alignment. And, then the natural order will be fully restored.

You mean there should be a Jesuit institute of higher learning called .......Faber College? You've been a great audience, I'm here all week! Boston College has a Faber House, but other naming opportunities remain open! Fr. B. two years ago said that Fr. Charles Dunn, the former Dean of Discipline, had moved to a Jesuit retirement residence at the age of 97. AFAIK, Fr. Dunn is still with us, and must be a centenarian or close to it. And I think too old to pre-empt Dean Wormer from taking a position at a Faber Institute, or a Faber University or even a Faber College on the banks of the Middle River.

When I was with the IVC, we often met at the Faber House. Like all Jesuit residences, very nice and compared well to Ciampi where we also met. The “BC” Faber location larger with more Jesuits.
