Bob Driscoll, the Providence AD, and Fr. Sicard, the Providence President, should be begging the fat cats in the Anderson Field luxury boxes to open up their wallets to bring Providence’s debt from negative to stable. Good luck to both in getting out of the financial quagmire.
In the Forbes Ratings cited in the article, HC has a A+ rating and is in the top 50 financially of all private colleges and universities. I will take that remarkable achievement of excellence and stability over several athletic facilities that HC will upgrade. Softball, Soccer and Lacrosse before Ice Hockey. HC next major project will be a student housing upgrade which is of a higher priority than luxury boxes in a Soccer Stadium.
On this Thanksgiving weekend, we as Holy Cross Alumni, are fortune, and thankful that leadership, both Administration and BOT, despite our disagreements and disappointments have guided HC on a rock solid financial base.

Could it be a case that Providence can get donors to build and fans to rent luxury boxes but they can't easily get a donor to just write a check to pay off a bank loan or retire a bond? If so, take the donation people are willing to give? And in HC's case, be slow to make discretionary upgrades with unrestricted funds while challenging the highly compensated Development Director (from Sader 70's 990 research) to attain donations with naming recognition for the discretionary upgrades like fan comfort amenities?

Looks like Coleman Jenkins is going to play a year in the BCHL for the Nanaimo Clippers prior to coming to HC. Interested to see if some of the other prep school recruits take a similar route.

I could see some parents being a tad nervous about that strategy. What's the pluses and minuses students and families weigh when making this decision?

Doesn't make too many families nervous given over 90% of D1 players spend at least a year in juniors before starting college.

While speculating, since there are more incoming freshman than graduating seniors, might be more scholarship money available starting the 2023-24 season.

Nervous about improving their games and getting a better offer? Most guys play in juniors. Literally no-one goes from prep school to College Hockey with success anymore.

Nervous about their son getting off the student track for a year and nervous about an injury that makes whatever scholarship offer was on the table disappear and the parents being stuck with a four year full tuition bill.
The typical "bird in the hand is worth two in the bush" concept. Plus colleges to some extent are "in loco parentis." How about junior hockey?

You've already been told they're not. Move on.
Short of an absolute stud college coaches are all in on kids additional seasoning in juniors.

Even the absolute studs are playing for the USNTP and not playing prep hockey. The USNTP squad plays a junior schedule with international tournaments while going to high school. Here is Curry's roster (they are ranked in the top ten in D-3 right now) www.curryathletics.com/sports/mice/2021-22/rosterAnd now AIC's aicyellowjackets.com/sports/mens-ice-hockey/rosterVery few 18/19 year old freshmen in college hockey today that play prep hockey.

And as much as kids and their lunatic parents think they dictate the terms -- 99% of the time they don't.

We hear regularly about corruption in the AAU basketball ranks--shoe company stuff, coaches getting paid off, etc. Is there a similar level of stink in junior hockey?
