Over the last week, the HC Hockey Twitter and Instagram accounts have announced the incoming class for next season. An unusually large class with 12 incoming freshman. Also of note, a young class with 4 of the recruits coming directly from high school, plus a number of players with only 1 year of junior experience. The class is as follows:
Mack Oliphant, Defense (Johnstown NAHL) Devin Phillips, Forward (Brooks AJHL) Jack Seymour, Forward (Brooks AJHL) Ryan Buckley, Defense (St. George’s HS) Matt Kursonis, Forward (St. George’s HS) *From Worcester Weston Turner, Defense (Wenatchee BCHL) Charlie Spence, Defense (Jr Bruins NCDC) Coleman Jenkins, Forward (Tabor HS / Jr Bruins NCDC) Dominic Murphy, Forward (St. Mark’s HS) *From Worcester, also St. Mark’s is where Coach Riga went to high school Joe Solimine, Forward (Jr Bruins NCDC) Sylas Oberting, Defense (NJ Titans NAHL) Matt DeBoer, Forward (Green Bay USHL) *Son of Vegas Golden Knights HC coach Peter DeBoer
7 forwards and 5 defensemen. Very interesting roster building when only 5 seniors are on the team currently, 2 forwards, 2 defensemen and a goalie. Looks like they may need to borrow from the club team a 3rd goaltender next season.
Welcome to HC and hope these young men become the foundation of a revitalized HC Men’s Hockey program.

When you mention "borrow from the club team" is this a HC club team? There doesn't seem to be many Canadians.

Yes, the HC club team. They did that last year as Thomas Gale (FR Goalie) deferred his acceptance until this year due to COVID.
And yes, light on players from Canada, heavy on player with NE Prep School background.
Another tidbit, Phillips, Seymour and DeBoer verbally committed under FHC Berard, everyone else recruited by the current coaching staff.

In the long run I am a believer in doing some fishing in regional waters as the school and the athletic program have a higher chance of getting a sixty year local salesperson to spread the Faith, and definitely during the four year tenure of the player.

Then you will be happy being a bottom feeder in Atlantic Hockey. Sadly, New England Hockey has been down for about 10-20 years on the youth level. www.espn.com/nhl/story/_/id/28726431/usa-hockey-hotbed-heat-check-center-american-hockey-universe

Boston comes in second behind the Twin Cities as the center of the hockey universe in the U.S. despite trending down in participation from a very high baseline. Let Coach Riga sell the team, the school and the area to players and families who are familiar with all three. Why waste time in a Las Vegas living room trying to teach a family how to pronounce Worcester and explain how their son will not become a Priest if he goes to Holy Cross. Local people already know HC is a good college not a seminary.

Mercyhurst who just came in had zero. hurstathletics.com/sports/mens-ice-hockey/rosterAIC who has been the best team in the conference has zero prep kids aicyellowjackets.com/sports/mens-ice-hockey/rosterJust interesting to see Riga around those programs instead of the top junior leagues.

If nobody else wants prep players, we'll get the best ones.

That seems logical. Since his current and future career depends on these players, I am sure Coach Riga is out to get the best talent available. I don't think HC gets and posts based on the program their player left to come to HC.

If nobody else wants prep players, we'll get the best ones. Well when the best don't go directly from prep to college, they will likely be getting pushed around by the 20 year old freshmen which are all over college hockey.

Better to have guys committed to Coach Riga. If we lost a Coach Berard evaluated recruit we have Berard's track record to comfort us.

If II was a PC alum, I would be more concerned about the state of the college’s financial stability, than being a nationally ranked hockey program. A C- rating from Forbes does not bode well for the immediate and especially the long term future of the institution.
I’’ll take an A+ Forbes rating and a currently underperforming hockey team, over a C- Forbes rating, with potential to fall into the Abyss financially, that PC is currently facing, with a ranked hockey team.
Maybe the kids on the PC hockey team can matriculate with the Providence Bruins, if Providence College folds and follows the path of Private Nonprofit Colleges that have recently closed. Remember, It’s all about the Benjamins, in the coffers, not the pucks flying around the rinks.

Didn't know you want to talk about the financials of the school. Last I knew this was the Hockey part of the site and Holy Cross just lost a recruit to a better hockey program. Weird to be excited about a decommit from an AHA team to a HEA program which has the former coach working in their athletic department as an Associate AD.

Maybe they should be concerned about the financial stability of the institution. Apparently, the street has real concerns about the viability of that institution. Guess the Alumni of Becker, Mt. Ida, Pine Manor, College of New Rochelle, Atlantic Union, Marylhurst, where not concerned either. Time for them to get their head out of the sand and take a trip to Wall Street.
In the meantime, I’ll be concerned when Providence goes to the NCAA playoffs in Football and Baseball. Don’t see it in the immediate future.

While this is a Sports Forum, we all know finances drive the operations of the Athletic Departments. HC will be able to borrow if’s necessary for continue upgrades to facilities. PC, maybe not so much. Tongue in cheek regarding PC Football and Baseball, since they discontinued both programs. No possibly either sports will be in the NCAA tournament. At least HC has the possibility going forth with Soccer. The proposed renovated Smith Field for Soccer and Lacrosse will double the current capacity, will be twice the size of Chapey Field at Anderson Stadium, and approximately the same size as Lewis Field at UNH. In the meantime, PC Alumni should be very concerned about it’s Forbes rating and rankings. UNH Alumni need to open their wallets to fund the Soccer Stadium project that is currently in Limbo for three years. www.unh.edu/unhtoday/news/release/2018/08/10/unh-breaks-ground-new-soccer-and-lacrosse-facilityAny updates regarding fund raising status and shovels in the ground to complete the project?

Forbes rated nearly 50 percent of private colleges at C or worse. www.forbes.com/sites/schifrin/2021/02/22/college-financial-grades-2021-will-your-alma-mater-survive-covid/?sh=5631bff04916Let's see how long that renovation to bring up Johnson Stadium to Anderson's standards with luxury boxes, chairbacks, a press box with a video board, etc while making the final four.

I'll connect the dots and say that 50% of private colleges being rated C or less indicates there currently are structural weaknesses in the private college industry. Luxury boxes for Soccer may represent the problem not the solution.
