But if you miss, we have only a 2 point lead. Always harder to get the 2 point PAT than the kick for 1. Then, if Pioneers get close enough, a FG for them wins it rather than a tie and overtime. I think Chesney made the right call though your argument has merit. Edit: Oh, wait. You mean concede no PAT by just taking a knee? Hmmm. I need to think about that more! Does the clock run on PAT's? If not the opponent would still get the ball back

Almost 100% sure the clock does NOT run on PATs. But believe 92's point was a blocked PAT run back or even a 2 point fumble or interception/return gets 2 points for Sacred Heart.

One interesting play that was mentioned elsewhere was the extra point after the go-ahead TD. IAt the time, thought it might make sense to go for 2 and take a knee. Eliminates the possibility of a 2 point return to tie the game. Is that crazy? 2 peas in a pod...said the same thing to my brother at the game....with the high snap, my heart was in my throat....the life of an HC fan

The thought was that they’d get the ball back with 14 or fewer seconds left, hopefully deep in their own end with no timeouts. Almost no way to get a field goal attempt for them. If that snap had not been snared out of the air by the holder, SHU could have returned it and tied the game.

Side note: Mike Kaminski was not at first a scholarship recruit. He was actually a walk-on. He was always asking if I could find ways to mention him in the Crusader (because he hoped to eventually earn a scholarship and thought good publicity could help).. I did and so did he! What a great "find" he was for the Cross. Was he a straight ahead kicker as opposed to soccer style?

Was he a straight ahead kicker as opposed to soccer style? Straight...one of the last IIRC. Thus making two 44 yard FGs in one game a tremendous feat. If it was easier to kick straight ahead they would still be doing it.

Agree 100%.
I wonder who was first “soccer style” kicker for HC?
I think Jerry Kelley, Worcester native as I recall, maybe class of 76 was a straight on kicker. If so it was after his tenure.
Trivia- who was first NFL soccer style kicker?

Were there lights brought in as some suggested we would provide in case of a long game ? I didn’t notice anything from the broadcast

No lights at Fitton for the game.
Was at the game in person and just finished watching the replay. Sluka was clear victim of targeting and how could that not be called when they reviewed it? What were they looking at?

Perhaps discussed before should the holder have run or eaten the ball? the snap was very high throwing the timing off; Haughney got the ball down & Ng pooched a weak kick over the bar it was an unforced error that could have been a disaster if SHU blocks the PAT & takes it back for 2

True, but they did not so it went well thanks to both Haughney and Ng. The list of what "could" have happened on almost any given play is practically endless. Why worry about it?
