I know in Mass. HS sports, the MIAA gets a big cut of state tournament attendance....I'm wondering if schools lowball attendance at these playoff games to not give the NCAA a biggah cut? Just a thought. I hope no photos surface of an Augustinian passing an envelope to a Jesuit under the stands. But your explanation is as good as any.

Hopefully my final thought on the game. Did anyone else notice that especially in the beginning of the game how Crusader players helped up Wildcats that they had just tackled. Notably and especially Jacob Dobbs. While our guys were doing that, Villanova players were making punches at our downed QB and noted they tried to "ground down" HC runners who were tackled and purposely slow in getting up and off them after the play. My gut tells me I want SDSU to pound these guys despite their nice comments afterwards (faint praise: Holy Cross is NOT a Patriot League team) but my head tells me that a win by Villanova will enhance our end-of-season ranking. So we can't lose. SDSU has been forced to coast hop from SacrAmento to Philly. I think they'll be ready to wipe the smirk off the Wildcats.

Jackrabbits are the best wabbits of them all. They should travel well to Philly.

Yea, he had an awful cheap shot on Liam Doran that got flagged. I did love that Sluka did not back down and even got back in a couple of their faces after the early dirty hits on him. Guy plays with a chip on his shoulder and attitude which I love (although yes I would like for him to go through his progressions quicker and not take so many hits) I'm all for designed runs and RPO's but taking 30 shots a game like he did in the playoffs will eventually lead to an injury.

They will hop to it.😀 Must be a little confusing to the Delaware team, when the coach welcomes them to the first day of practice.....Men, you are now hens. 🤣 Not that there is anything wrong with that according to Seinfeld. Need a little humor, certainly has been a stressful couple of weeks reading about the Coaching Carousel.

Hoestly, I don't remember any of these negative types of comments about SDSU after they beat us. Villanova is entirely different. Maybe, the players are a reflection of the program or, even perhaps the school..

The cheap stuff seemed confined to #73 as the game wore on. I do think they tried to intimidate us at the beginning and Sluka was having none of that.

If you ask most of my friends who went there about whether or not they follow VU football, you'll most likely get the following responses: 1) "Our football team sucks." Yea the team with the .800 winning % over the past 12 years. 2) "We have football but it's not Division I" -- because every true sports fan knows FCS isnt DI. And these are people who when they were in college bought the basketball season pass, traveled to NCAA games, go to Villaova watch parties regularly in NYC, attend the Big East every year and regularly brag about recent championships.

I'd have to replay the game but the guy that slugged Sluka was not #73. Much smaller guy, probably a DB but looked like part of it was they (probably at least 2-3 defenders) were frustrated they couldn't get him to the ground. They finally did and out of bounds when the Wildcat straddled him and took two swings at him. Ref right there but no flag.

'85 was such a strange (and ultimately tragic) season. Overall the team was very talented, beat a solid Delaware team (thanks somewhat to Hurricane Gloria), played a good Army team (bowl team that year) really tough for 3 quarters etc. A lot of it stemmed from Coach Carter's troubles at the time (his father was seriously ill, he was upset about not getting out of his HC contract etc). QB issues as already stated, injuries etc etc...it was just a team that couldn't get any traction. Credit to the players and coaches then to turn it around so quickly and go on the phenomenal run of 1986-91. I agree. But leave us not forget that we were still an athletic scholarship program in the nascent non-scholarship PL between 1986 and 1991. The most memorable game for me during this period was a last second win over Princeton at Palmer Stadium when Nolan Cromwell emerged from a kickoff scrum at midfield and raced down the HC sideline for the winning TD. I know a guy who started for that Princeton team and he remembers that play very well. The record in the Duffner years against scholarship schools at the FCS (then 1AA) level was 10-0-1, not counting the 1987 win against VU, who was just reviving their program (Umass 3-0-1; Villanova 1-0, Northeastern 2-0, W&M 2-0, BU 1-0, URI 1-0). The PL certainly padded the stats, especially 86-89; but the strength of the program cannot be disputed.

Villanova game stated attendance was ~5100. On TV it looked closer to 8-9k once all the tailgaters/students made their way in by the late first quarter. Can anyone confirm or have thoughts? Same issues as the HC game where the actual attendance was a couple thousand more than the official number? It definitely was about 8500 or so. I have pictures to prove it. Agreed. Many more than 5,100. Great crowd. Great atmosphere. Lots of HC fans in attendance.

If we made Siderman our QB and made Sluka a RB and gave it to him 20 times per game, would you still worry about the injuries the same way?

Had a gramdson who was accepted at both HC and Villanova. He just graduated from Villanova and was very happy with his experience and education ( got a good starting job this summer) Granddaughter was undergratuate a Villanova, has transferred to Holy Cross. She is an athlete and is very happy with her decision although she thinks the academics are harder at Holy Cross. Just sayin........

I may have previously shared the story of a classmate who came to HC as a Pre-Med football player, but blew out his knee early on, and never played a down. After his first month or two at UVA Medical School, he thought, "Really? This is all you got?" He was shocked at how much easier the workload was compared to the undergrad Pre-Med program at HC. Oh yeah, he graduated #1 in his UVA Med School class.

The brutally hard Xaverian Brothers at St. John's Prep prepared me well for HC, and my challenging professors at HC prepared me well for law school. By law school I felt I could handle anything that was thrown at me.

I have no issues with the education I received at either stop. When I started my MBA at Lehigh (unfinished, got sidetracked early by Hurricane Sandy and life and lost all momentum), that provided about as comparable an experience as I had to my first semester at HC. Total whirlwind and a feeling that I was getting my a** handed to me (which I was).

Same experience for me in grad school - and is especially notable because I graduated in the top 75% of my HC class. MS in Operations was a breeze.
I have heard more than 1 HC admin past and present day Harvard is harder to get into than Holy Cross but easier to graduate from.

If we made Siderman our QB and made Sluka a RB and gave it to him 20 times per game, would you still worry about the injuries the same way? So there are two ways to answer this question. One in theory and the other in practice. In theory, if Marco was the starting QB and (Very Importantly) Joe P was a reliable back-up, I would not have a problem with Sluka getting 20 touches and therefore 20 hits a game as a RB. Now in practice, while it may look to some as though Sluka could be a star RB given his running prowess, he would not be near as effective as Peter Oliver or others in that role. Without getting too complex, what makes Sluka so good is the nature of how he can create plays with his legs. Simply, his ability to scramble into an open area and make defenders miss or a designed QB run from the Shotgun with a RB as a lead blocker IS VERY DIFFERENT than having a QB hand you the ball in the backfield and running ISO, Power, Counter's etc. Sluka's frame at 6'3 215 and running style are not conducive to an every down RB. The only other role that could work for him is what you might call the Taysom Hill model when Drew Brees was the starting QB in NOLA. The Saints found ways to get the ball into Hill's hands 15-20 times a game both as a situational QB or Half-back that included designed runs or receptions to capitalize on his skill set. If Matt (God Forbid) played for Fordham, this is likely the role he would have played in their offense with DeMorat as the starting and proven QB. My sense is that Marco has some really good raw talent but isn't to that level (at least yet) where the trade-offs make sense to move Matt away from the QB position.

We have to figure out how to get _____ the ball "in space" is a very common statement these days. Sluka is "in space" as soon as he touches the ball on every shotgun snap. Shouldn't he only get better as he and the OC have more time together and the game slows down more and more for both of them and he needs less and less time to compute the variables that happen after the snap, but the new defense he faces every week still needs about the same time?
