I am sure they'll win, but wow this is disappointing. Tough to watch.

Up by one, 38 seconds left. Now 28 seconds, UNH has ball with a full clock. HC up by one. What to do?

Now 8.2 seconds left. Should be UNH ball after review, HC still up by one. HC has just played tight D so far.

Torres dribbles her shoulder into Cross and gets two free throws. HC time out. Cross got played by a quicker athlete? 7.0 seconds. HC ball down by one.
Avery with the buzzer beater for the win. Of course! Had it all the way.

What a shot by Avery. Should be a sports center and definitely a Patriot League highlight.

Nothing but net on Avery's buzzer beater as she was wearing Torres, UNH's best defender. Amazing.

ls, what were you looking at ? that was an obvious foul on Cross who proved twice in the last 8 seconds that she is STUPID - Her reach-in with 8 secs left would be a foul earlier in the game - aa) why are you reaching in that situation, and bb) what is she thinking blocking out near the half court line with 7 secs left - I'm sorry, coach M, you have to figure out what is bugging her because she and the whole team are very lucky Avery bailed them out

I credited Torres with a veteran move. I don't remember a reach in, but maybe that was the fouling offense.

With McCormack out, Coach doesn't have a ton of options in place of Cross. Davis played tonight but is basically a freshman due to injury last year. I'm not aware of anything bugging Cross. She makes errors but also heady moves like steals.

I think the reach in reference was an earlier play where she tapped the ball out of bounds. No foul. Just broke up the play nicely and cleanly. They reviewed it because it was possible it went off Torres' hands after Cross knocked it loose. Would have been our ball if it went off Torres. It was close but not overturnable. It was a great but dangerous move. It did break UNH momentum IMO.

Petro started instead of Ezemma tonight, so Coach is trying to shake things up with her limited options.

I thought a worse play was Allen letting the UNH kid grab a rebound off her own miss from the corner in the final minute. Stood flatfooted and didn't react at all. Perhaps Avery's heroics wouldn't have been needed.

both teams with 7 turnovers - we are sloppy and UNH is clearly doesn't have much talent 14-8 HC after 1 They were bigger, however; and over the next couple years, progress (recruiting, developing) has to occur in that regard. Both Ezemma and Allen are valuable players, but it's tough to play both of them at the same time, especially with the small guards we have.

If the goal of our program truly is to "win championships" I pray that this win isn't being celebrated behind the scenes and in the locker room like it is on our social media platforms. Judging by each post, we just knocked off an ACC team instead a 2-5 AE team which doesn't even do justice to how weak that team is. The same fundamental bad habits continue to plague our team between the turnovers and inability to consistently defensive rebound. Winning is hard enough and when you spot an opponent 11 (!!) extra possessions it makes things that much harder. Woof.
Regarding the rotation, I the bigger disappointment is the inability for any of the freshmen to break through into the rotation - regardless of McCormack's status. If a Junior and a Freshman are on the same level developmentally most coaches in America are going to play the underclassmen, especially if it's one of "their recruits". It's not like the makeup of the roster was a surprise when the current coaches recruited this freshman class. For whatever reason, the learning curve with this group appears to be much steeper than anticipated.

I think this was a nice win (all wins are nice I guess), but I agree that the failure, to date, of any freshmen to become significant contributors is a red flag for the rest of this year and definitely next year. They need at least one, hopefully two, frosh to start chipping in at some point. The women were lucky last night. Cross' foul at the end was 100% a foul; she bodied the UNH player near half court. The other play where she reached in and knocked away the ball is also often called a foul. I assume Coach M. told her players, as time wound down, don't foul.

You have to count Davis as a freshman too, she didn't even practice last year, I don't think.
So she and Munt play a little, Berger's fallen back, which is disappointing seeing where the needs on the court are. Huber's caught behind other more experienced players.

We've exited these past three games 2-1 as expected but not how expected. Avery's buzzer beater was food for the soul to propel the team forward. She and Sluka have the same clutch gene that make being a fan so much fun.
