Generic, stock answers about vision & philosophy. Highly doubt there will be anyone there will ask ask any specific coach/sport questions, and if they do, they'll get nothing back. It's not even his first official day on the job yet.

Kit said all the right things, IMO. Too bad we couldn’t hear the questions but one answer made pretty clear he wants Chesney to stay and Vince seemed to echo that.
No questions, or answers anyway, about basketball.
He also strongly implied that this will be a long term position for him because of all the family in close proximity.
First impression: a very solid hire.

Kit said all the right things, and I just hope he was sincere about making a commitment to Holy Cross and seeing things through, unlike the last two bozos.
It's also a breath of fresh air having PVR lead these press conferences. I particularly liked the way he jumped onto the end of Kit's answer about the football program to emphasize how he recognizes the program's importance to the school -- something McFarland and Burroughs wouldn't have done in a million years.

No question (he choked up) that family is his highest priority. With his own and his in-laws - his second family - it sounds like the only move he’d make is to a larger New England school like BC or Harvard where he could stay local but get more $$$$.
He’s not about to leave for Air Force or Creighton. 😉

I didn't need to know that he came to HC because it's only an hour from his parents house and and hour from his in-laws house

Well Lou sorry if it offended you that the guy was mentioning where his parents live and where is wife’s family is from. Unbelievable some of the stuff people have to say. Always have to find something wrong. Be happy you have a guy who seems committed to continuing with the success of the football program. He even mentioned hockey so in my opinion today is a good day. Enjoy it!

We all are Lou! I think the mention of parents and in-laws was (hoping) stating a case that he won’t be like the last two using us as a jumping off point. Long term commitment on his part.

Just watched the presser - I like the pick very much - I hope he realizes just how big a job this is at this moment with so many teams struggling to compete

PHaze's point is the right one -- SO many things need fixing, big and small, short- and long-term. He needs to be sure he has the right people around him, so they can be empowered to help make the necessary changes. Haven't gotten a good vibe from athletics dept. functionaries for many years. That where's the culture change needs to start.

I think that it is a big deal that President Rougeau was there sitting next to him and voicing strong support for our athletic programs. I found that VERY encouraging.

One of my biggest takeaways from the press conference... gratitude. That he spent the first few minutes thanking the most important people in his life, both personally and professionally, was very classy IMO. Seems very authentic, which is also what I've heard about him from a few others who know him.
Rooting hard for him.

Listened to the press conference and agree, while fairly standard in his responses, there was an emotion that was missing in the Pine & Blossom fairly robotic pressers.
And what I view as a positive sign, on the day of his introduction, he's already getting involved in HC life (outside of athletics) and tweeting about it. He's already off to a better start than his immediate predecessors.

Just watched the presser - I like the pick very much - I hope he realizes just how big a job this is at this moment with so many teams struggling to compete HC fields a total of 27 men's and women's sports. I don't know how that compares with similar institutions, but it seems a large number for such a small school. I assume the number reflects the College's oft stated goal of providing as many opportunities as possible for student participation in varsity sports. Broad participation in intercollegiate athletics is no doubt a worthy goal. But varsity sports can...and should, to my mind...serve two other important purposes. To wit, to enhance the school's external "brand" and to increase the enthusiasm of students and alumni/ae for Alma Mater. (On the enthusiasm point, I've never forgotten what a Princeton grad said when the Tigers won the Ivy League football title one year after a long hiatus. He noted that the IL was certainly not the Big 10, but that history showed that alumni contributions jumped substantially whenever Princeton football or men's basketball did well.) Prioritization obviously becomes essential...not only within the Athletic Department, but in the President's office and on the Board of Trustees...if the school's athletic efforts are not to be dissipated by being spread too broadly. For me, football and men's basketball need to be the top priorities for TPTB and the AD. After the "big two", I rank baseball, men's lacrosse, and women's basketball. Why? Because I think they are the sports where HC can get the most "bang for the buck" in terms of branding and enthusiasm within the College community. "Prioritization" obviously starts with money. But it also includes something important that has been sadly lacking in recent decades. To wit, enthusiastic, vocal, and effective support from the President of the College and the Board of Trustees for the key sports and an emphasis on doing well (i.e, winning) in those sports, not just participating in them. I join with everyone in wishing the new AD great success. He has a very full plate in front of him as he joins our community. Go Cross!

And PVR was in NYC Wednesday speaking to alums and others at a festive Bryant Park Grill (reasonably priced) luncheon. He made a very favorable impression on me both in his prepared address/ Q&A, and especially in a one to one where he listened attentively. No rush job.
