I saw Jack the Shot only in two NITs, in 1961 and 1962. He was truly a great shooter, but most of his makes in those games were from today’s two point range. Ron Perry Jr. made more deep takes than The Shot. Ed Siudut made by far the most in the games that I witnessed. Absolutely. Agree with every point.
However, I wonder if Foley had the three point line if his shot would have been as effective from that distance.

I think it probably would since he had great jumping ability on his shot. Legs give shots distance. Just as so many players today practice threes more than other shots, The Shot would have also. Like most great shooters, He had great touch.

The Pistol did have unlimited range, but please do not accept Walton as a serious opinion. He does not take himself seriously.

A little goes a long way with Walton.

On t.v. (Channel 13 in NYC in b+w) and in person at HC (and a few years after his NBA days when he played for a local amateur team). I remember wins against Seton Hall, BC and BU (and a loss to BU as well). I got to travel to New England with guys from Bergen Cath (and tnheirfamilies) going to visit colleges. Why do you ask? PS: I saw HC play off campus and never took a campus tour until I actually up to start my freshman year. Proper priorities.

Somewhat better than 50 percent of Ronnie's field goals would have to have been outside the arc. I scanned down the names on that database on the website to check on guys that I remembered as liking to take a lot of deep shots. Not too many made more 3 pointers than 2 pointers. Based on about 3 minutes of research the only names I came up with were Anthony Thompson, Mark Jerz and James Stowers. (the first name that came to my mind was Lorne Davis - close, but he made more 2's than 3's) I might have thought along the same lines as NAD, but being a big scorer and more than 50% from outside the line is a tall order. Ronnie probably would be farther from 3000 than gut instinct would have guessed. --------------------------- Total tangent: I really like that 1952-"present" database. It would be nice if someone had updated it in the last 3 1/2 years. They started that new stat system in 2020 and seem to have abandoned past that It would be so easy to assign some intern or student to update the database--it should be done Kit will clean up loose ends like that.

Watching on Channel 13 in the NY area (I think it may have been pre-PBS) was clearly not the best, but it was still something. Im also watched St Bonaventure's vs Providence that way. Heck, that was back in the day when NY Channel 11 had the high school game of the week...including special halftime entertainment. Don't know if Marty Glickman had anything to do with the HS Basketball Game of the Week; but he was the play-by-play guy for the football counterpart; and he liked doing it so much he did it a long time after he became known as a big time broadcaster. And, of course, he liked hs and college track as that was his personal athletic background.

A checkered career (freshmen not eligible, lost a great deal of time his junior year due to the emergence of Kevin Stacom; who then moved on to PC)....but in terms of number of shot attempts made from 3 point distance vs 2 pointers; I'd put Buddy Venne up against anyone.

A good shot, that is sure. I remember a New York paper covering the game at Columbia game saying, "That is Venne...as in shoot again." He was never afraid to take his shot, even when having an off night.
