Well, missed picking the Friday game but I'll keep playing ... SDSU for the Dakota Bowl! The Dakota Bowl South. Possibly smaller turnout than if the game was held in the Dakotas or under the Dome at US Bank Stadium in Minneapolis, which should bid on future FCS championship games. Good enough for a Superbowl, good enough for FCS. Might help keep the North Central teams in FCS.

Freshman Touchdown Tommy, Sluka like for sure, at Montana State

Touchdown Tommy with the score to end the 3rd Q...24-17 Bobcats.
He does run hard but I think Slithering Sluka is faster more elusive but I'm biased.

Four minutes plus, three time outs, Jack's have ball and need two scores. Unlikely but a great FCS game.

By the way, Neon Deion's Jackson St team got smoked by SC State 31-10....bit of a comedown after signing the #1 recruit in America.

This atmosphere is fabulous and the announcers are raving about the atmosphere for the championship in Frisco, so it makes you feel good about FCS ball.

It's really a shame that not more college football fans in America know about guys like Tommy Mellot and Matt Sluka. FCS is oft-maligned but it is a great level of football with great stories both on and off the field.
Touchdown Tommy was responsible for about 380 yds (155 rushing) of Montana St's 400 total yards.

The stadium in Bozeman seats just shy of 18,000; announcers said there were 22,000+. They don't count standees. The stadium was truly packed on a cold day, and fall semester had already ended. And no tailgaters more interested in tailgating than football.
Pretty campus set in the snow-covered mountains.
Touchdown Tommy throws a nice ball.

And a lot of talk among SWAC fanbases about how the MEAC is weak and should lose it's tie-in to the bowl. Some are advocating it should go to #1 v #2 HBCU instead of SWAC v. MEAC. Nice effort from SC State who came into the game at 6-5.

After Jan 8, it will be interesting to compare attendance, atmosphere, etc. at the Frisco stadium, which is hosting two BCS bowl games in addition to the FCS final.
I always wonder what's in it for the JMUs of the world moving up. There's really a level in between "real" BCS and FCS. Bowl eligible but for what obscure bowls?
The most obscure one is on Xmas Eve. Hawaii finished 6-7 but got some kind of exemption to be bowl eligible. Hosting 6-6 Memphis, who must be happy to get a trip to Hawaii (at least in most years, a Covid year, perhaps not).
The game is on UHawaii's campus. Aloha Stadium has been permanently shuttered, to be replaced by a 35K facility in 3 or 4 years. Capacity of where they're playing, something on the order of 9K. Big time, indeed.

I know NDSU fans have flocked to Frisco in the past.....what would be interesting to see is what sort of a crowd a Holy Cross-Sacramento St. (basically any teams not in the MVFC or other schools in the FCS with pretty decent followings) would draw at Frisco.
Another thing with bowls these days is that a lot of the bettah players are more and more opting to not play in them to get ready for the NFL draft.

HC-Sac State, while a great story and thrilling for us, likely would be considered not the "ideal" draw for Frisco. Having at least one of the Dakota or Montana schools will be the attendance "golden goose" going forward with JMU moving on and transitioning to FBS. Jacksonville State used to draw well for their playoff runs and they're gone to CUSA along with Sam Houston. Delaware, McNeese State, Idaho and Youngstown would travel well to Frisco if/when those programs wake up again. Wouldn't surprise me if in ten years some of the top teams in FCS are schools that weren't in DII that long ago (or still in DII but current candidates to move up in realignment)-- watch out for schools like Central Arkansas, Tarleton State, Texas A&M Commerce, Incarnate Word, West Florida and North Alabama to pick up some of the mojo from schools departing for FBS. With regards to players sitting out the bowls, I think it's a little sad. I get it -- you could get hurt and ruin your stock. But didn't you take the same risk every week throughout the season? Why not just take the whole season off and work out? You don't really hear about players having a great September and October and then all of a sudden deciding to not play for draft reasons. You'd think that would happen too nowadays.
