Dean, while the decision was made awhile ago to prohibit politics on this board, a decision to which I agreed heartily, I have a request (large or small, depending on one's perspective), and that would be to have a separate thread for Covid, it's ramifications; vaccine effectiveness; its spread; and all things Covid related including what colleges & universities do to combat it and plans to cancel or postpone various athletic events or class and to prohibit its discussion in any sports-related thread.
I am personally tired and suspect I am not the only one, about going to the basketball, football or other sports threads looking for information about the Crusader teams only to encounter diatribes about Covid under the pretense it is about a particular sport. I don't care if you are pro-vaccines, anti-vaccines, pro-mask, anti-mask, NBA, NHL, NBA cancellations or postponements; Trump's your hero, Trump should be put in jail, Biden sucks, Biden's great, Fauci should be jailed or be beatified. When I go to a particular thread, I'm looking for that sport's results, recruits, signings, expected wins and losses, etc.
If a game is going to be canceled or postponed or Holy Cross changes the protocols at the Hart or Fitton, stick it in a Covid thread. If we are interested, we can go there.
And, yes, I know that this might be some additional work as administrator to monitor this but most Crossporters seem to do a decent job of self-monitoring.
If I'm the only one who feels this way, I'm sure folks will chime in and, if I'm in the distinct minority, forget about it, I may just have to go on a Christmas hiatus.

If it were to come to a vote, I would be in favor of this. I can only imagine how things would be here if not for the football team.

I heartily agree. Sports is, or should be, a great refuge from politics. The site has gotten very political lately and not just around Covid. We have members from all across the political spectrum, but we are united in our love for Holy Cross. Let’s stick to sports! GO CROSS GO!!

I think discussion of COVID protocols at various schools and venues should be ok. This is helpful.
Also, the question begs, is opining on any COVID-related topic automatically considered political? Very possible to have opinions on institution-specific COVID policy without even broadly endorsing a political school of thought.

Respectfully disagree and the reason for my post. Unfortunately, the COVID subject has become politicized and some folks' facts are other folks' "alternative facts." It shouldn't be that way but it is.
But, beyond that, which is obviously my personal opinion and you can and might disagree, apparently many posters agree with me that they would prefer not to have virtually every thread on virtually every sport digress into discussions/debates on COVID.
Again, my personal preference is for all things COVID to be a separate thread so that for those who have an interest in the latest opinions on that subject they can go there and for those who prefer their sports discussions to be more on focus, they don't have to deal with the many digressions.
And as one poster suggested a concern about COVID protocols at home or away games, a thread heading for example like "Lehigh game COVID protocols" should tip people off and they can go there if interested.

I agree. Please make COVID posts their own thread. Not "censorship" but perhaps "segregation" by topic.

My idea (in THEORY) would be this: Let's all be grown men (and women) and learn to be adult about our disagreements, whether they be about coaching philosophy, the AI, what conference HC should be in, whether HC should open up a business school, thoughts on Red Sox/Yankees rivalry, public policy, and, yes politics".
In PRACTICE, however, I'll concede that I've never moderated a message board and haven't dug into the repercussions of all said discourse from a bird's eye view. From what I've heard, petty name-calling and disagreements have ruined message boards at other schools. So if TPTB here, in addition to a number of respected posters here think eliminating politics makes the board a better place, then I'm happy to fall in.
