A hidden benefit might be added maturity. I haven't read the term "miscreant" on Crossports in ages. Not since the last time Coach Carmody was bashed.😉

No reason for concern but there has been a trend in women's bball that commit announcements pick up well in advance of the end of their jr. years. This year's and next year's frosh were committed to HC by this time. I hope we're trying to reach higher given our recent success - we will have at least 3 openings with Janelle, Bronagh and Cara being seniors next season

Although a fair amount of commits have occurred the last couple of weeks, not at the pace of previous years. Don't know if that is due to coaches or the kids. Who knows what effect the portal is having.

Maybe HC can secure a little higher talent level than usual if other teams are overwhelmed with trying to compare a current HS junior vs what might be available in the portal for the '24-25 season, and HC can act decisively with a plus talent recruit.
HC should be decisive with aspirational picks as at our best we are not a portal school. Out of necessity like in MBB, OK. But long term, four year keepers are more valuable than portal pick-ups at HC imo.

I also note, that, as of today, there are only 4 announced commits in the PL, 1 for Lehigh (Nov.), 1 for Loyola (Nov) & 2 for Navy (both Jan.).

Emma West, who is a teammate of incoming frosh Simone Lewis is off the board, she just committed to William and Mary. I thought we had a pretty good shot of getting her. Had several offers including Navy & Loyola.

We have a 2025 recruiting thread that's seen some activity - how about the '24 openings on the roster - any updates on replacing the 3 seniors on next year's team ?

Nope, been looking, but nothing much. FWIW, it seems that many schools are seeing a delay in commits, I presume that it is due to folks using the portal as a recruiting tool.

Perhaps a coincidence, but two of our offerees, Kasey Bretones, 5'10 PG & Taylor Derkack SG just committed to UMass. Both had multiple offers

Are the new assistants on the road recruiting (although not officially announced) ? We have room for 3 schollie additions to replace the 3 srs. on next season's roster - I'd like to think we can look for even better players than they are, given the momentum that the program has. Have to hope we're getting close on at least one commitment in the coming weeks

Don't know if this is due to a great reliance on the portal or what. Most of our know kids who have not committed elsewhere have mulitiple offers. I to hope we start to see some action. Need a big & a scorer out of this class.

As mentioned above - now offered: Nothing posted on her in this thread since Augustl of 2022, but she has yet to commit. I have been following her a bit since she also has a Bucknell offer, although I doubt she will go in that direction - especially after Bucknell's two recent incoming transfers from Fordham plus yesterday's commitment of Hope Masonius, all guards. Gormley had gone from the end of July 2022 until early March 2023 without a new offer. But over the past six weeks, she suddenly got offers from Seton Hall, George Washington, Northeastern, Pitt, Buffalo, and Harvard. She already had older offers last summer from HC, Boston U, Bucknell, Loyola (IL), UMass, Fairfield, Youngstown, Marist, and Siena. Had taken unofficials to Bucknell, HC, Boston U, Siena, Marist, Loyola, etc. I had been expecting her to join her sister at Boston U, but Harvard might be hard to turn down.

Info on one more HC-Bucknell recruit, a 6-2 forward from Indiana. Just picked up an offer from DePaul and now has offers from from DePaul, UAB, Murray State, Bryant, Liberty, Davidson, Cincinnati, Toledo, Penn, Wright State, Army, Holy Cross, Bucknell, Buffalo, Bradley, Butler, etc.

Then your last sentence covered my question. It's an interesting concept of why a recruit would bypass Harvard for any school except perhaps if there was a logical path to be a starter for a national contender, and there isn't a one size fits all answer.

Another reason to turn down Harvard might be if she doesn't qualify for a lot of financial aid and her parents don't want to foot the bill when there are a dozen options where she would get a free ride. That can be an issue with parents who make a good income but are not rich.

At this stage, I'm guessing most of our commits for '24 might well be coming from kids that don't post their offers, which on the ladies side, are legion. PS: Wadkins has committed to Drexel.

It’s still early but so far we have not been able to parlay the PL championship into securing commitments from our top targets. Maybe the staff turnover has been one of the reasons
