Or as my Irish immigrant grandfather quoted to me what it says on top of the Worcester courthouse (still?): "Obedience to the law is liberty." Worcester has a beautiful new courthouse on Main Street. The old courthouse, which had some beautiful courtrooms, but was a confusing and downtrodden place, has, I've read, been converted into very nice apartments. I'm guessing that "Obedience to Law is Liberty" is still there over he front entrance.

If any of the locals here drive by, I'd be interested if that inscription is still there . . . .in memory of my grandfather.
Total aside: when time for my Irish maternal grandfather to get his citizenship he said that all they asked him was "Will you serve?" (this was around the time of WWI). While he said yes, I'm not aware that he ever got the call to duty. Having two daughters, it was up to his two sons-in-law to serve in WWII.

Well, since he’s younger and very healthy (not-at-risk) AND has had Covid at least once before, he doesn’t see the upside in getting the Covid vaccine (even separate and apart from possible vaccine side effects). A total wack-attack by Covid-era standards. At the same time, even those enraged that he's not up for the Covid vaccine have to recognize that he entered the country legally, went through the legal process of hearings and appeals, and is heading home. Not like he clandestinely tunneled in from Serbia, broke out of quarantine housing, and is now chaining himself to the net at center court, etc. The fact that Covid is now skyrocketing in heavily-vaccinated Australia (and Djokovic himself is by all accounts virus-free) just adds the cherry on top of this farcical episode.

His entry was not legal. He covered up by lying on his immigration form that he had been in no other countries 21 days prior to his arrival at the Australian border. Actually, he was in Spain a day before his trip to Australia. It was not known to the authorities. The Spanish authorities are in full investigative mode. Also, the entry permit was granted by the government of Victoria based on info from Tennis Australia. The fed government of Australia which is the ruling authority did not permit his entry. There is plenty of evidence of the slimy wack job Djokovic trying to weasel his way around Covid protocols. He admitted that he mingled with others while knowing that he was infected by the dreaded virus, putting them at risk. His wearing a surgical mask is little comfort to those in his presence. He is not a person for others but is only for himself. Obviously, his knowledge of science is primitive.Tangentially, this backward moron claimed that by pressing a loaf of bread against his arm he could detect a gluten allergy. Duh!!! His off the tennis court reputation is in tatters. But, he is a successful player on the tennis court and should continue his career as long as he honestly abides by the legal protocols of the host country. Otherwise, he should stay home and enjoy the beauty of the Balkans in Serbia.

Serbia is an amazing country to visit. Yup. I was being honest about the beautiful Balkans. I wasn't kidding either. Give me Split and Dubrovnik everyday. I guess we are leading the Serbia Travel Commission on Crosssports now!

Yup. I was being honest about the beautiful Balkans. I wasn't kidding either. Give me Split and Dubrovnik everyday. I guess we are leading the Serbia Travel Commission on Crossports now! Dubrovnik is beauiful. Also, spent time in Skopje and of course beyond Macedonia there is Split. The country presents a fascinating mix of west & east; Christian & Muslim; modern & traditional. And, the mountains are beautiful. Sign me up for the Travel Commission.

Please correct me if I’m wrong but I believe both Split and Dubrovnik are now in Croatia. Perhaps, in a former time one or both was in Serbia. During the Marshal Tito era, both were in Yugoslavia.

Djokovic can qualify for the French Open, where he is also the reigning champion, with test and quarantine under the current rules. But President Macron has vowed to "P--- off" the unvaccinated. So we'll see what happens.

The external appearance of the old courthouse has not changed.

One positive takeaway from this year’s Djokovic/Australia excellent adventure is the reverse efficacy of Australia’s quarantine housing.
The unvaccinated Djokovic arrived Covid-free, was shielded from the massive wave of Covid infections sweeping thru Australia’s (predominately vaccinated) population, and was able to depart Australia still Covid-free. A feel-good story from the Age of Covid. 👍
