While the passing of Bob Saget is making the news, for those of us of a certain age, this news hits closer to home:
Lives Lived: To millions of Americans, Dwayne Hickman will always be Dobie Gillis, the lovelorn teenager he played on a revered sitcom. Hickman died at 87.
R.I.P., Dobie.
And we still miss his pal, Maynard G. Krebs who was resurrected to Gilligan.😢

And I was sure Dwayne’s brother Darryl had died previously but is still alive at 90 years old. I remember him more for his role in “The Americans” which ran in 1961 for the centennial of the Civil War and bet a couple of guys here remember that show.
Darryl briefly studied to be a Passionist priest.
But back to Dobie. Remember “The Thinker?”

Speaking of deaths, but hopefully not to get morose, I get periodic notices from HC, like everyone, about classmates passing. I don't know how many exactly in my class have died but I would guess 40-50. Every time I get a notice I make a point of reading the person's obituary, even if I didn't know the person well. A lot of my classmates have lived full, prosperous, and even exciting lives, but even if they haven't I always like to read a little about how they lived. Sometimes there are some real surprises, but it's all good.

Always liked the Osborns, Chatworth Jr. and his mom (who was the same actress that played Mrs. Rayburn, the principal, in Leave It To Beaver). Yale guy, as I recall.

I don't remember his mother but loved Chatsworth.
P.S. In my mind, I keep thinking that the "Hand of Christ" sculpture in front of Dinand was the same guy (Rodin) who sculpted "The Thinker" - it's not.

Holy Cross currently owns 11 Rodin sculptures in its art collection. artonholycrosscampus.me.holycross.eduAt one point in the late 1970’s “The Thinker” sculpture, was provide on loan to Holy Cross by Gerald Cantor. The sculpture was on Linden Lane in front of O’Kane Hall and Dinand Library. Unfortunately I have not been able to find a picture online. A photograph may be found in a copy of the Purple Patcher during that era. Among the sculptures at Holy Cross is Eustache de Saint-Pierre created by French sculptor Auguste Rodin, located on Memorial Plaza.

My favorite “museum” in Paris is the Rodin garden outside the museum in his name We were fortunate to visit there shortly after a rainfall followed by a bright sun. The droplets, glistening on the bronze, on many statues, including The Thinker, gave a memorable sight. The original name was The Poet.

I remember that garden and we loved it as well. I would rank it up there with Monet's house, garden and paved road.

Considering that he was a contemporary of mine, until I saw clips of him on the news, I couldn't pick him out of a line-up. I recognize that's more a reflection on me than him. Seems he was a 70's guy and I am more late 50's/early to mid 60's centric when it comes to music. I do recall Meat Loaf being a guy whose physique looked like meat loafing. But I recognize that he sold millions upon millions of records but thought I heard he was in like 60 films. Is that possible?!
Anyway, R.I.P.

I read that Mr. Loaf once tried to arrange to meet K.D. Lang, a singer he admired. She, a vegan, refused to meet with him because of his name. Ironically he was apparently a vegan for many years as well.

I knew Louie was overweight to say the least as I never got the impression he was very tall but just read he was well north of 300 pounds. Something like 345. That’s fine if you are like 7’ tall. 😢
