Why exactly was HC playing Lafayette 4 games after they played them in Worcester?
The postponement means the interval between the 72nd and 73rd meetings ever between those fine institutions will be spaced out a bit better.

The postponement means the interval between the 72nd and 73rd meetings ever between those fine institutions will be spaced out a bit better. Who would have believed we would have stopped playing BC twice a year and start playing Lafayette twice, plus occasionally in the PLT? Hard to believe Fr. Brooks didn't just keep it simple and decide that if BC was going to the Big East, HC should naturally go, too. There used to be two long serving Congressmen from Central Mass, Phil Philbin from Clinton and Harold Donohue from Worcester who voted in lockstep. After they had been in the House together for thirty plus years, everyone knew that when Philbin looked at Donohue and Donohue looked back...it was time to go to lunch. Too bad Brooks and the Jesuit President of BC didn't have the same shorthand between them and wouldn't think of going separate ways in BB when it was unnecessary to at the time.

I think we played BC 3 times a couple times in the old ECAC playoff days....misty, watered, colored memories

Not sure what asking a question about a league schedule got you guys off on this tangent.

Not sure what asking a question about a league schedule got you guys off on this tangent. It was your mention of the 73rd meeting between these two fine institutions (Lafayette) that made me realize how far we have fallen competitively and how BC will inevitably cease to be our most played opponent and how it was HC who walked away from the twice yearly series with the Eagles by declining the Big East.

Unless the league changes the double round robin or someone leaves, the most played opponent will sometime in the 2030s be Army.

The fact that you have played someone many times doesn't necessarily make them an intense rival. HC and PL basketball is a perfect example. IMHO, the only time a true rivalry has existed in any way, shape or form over the last 40 years of HC hoops has been 5+ years with Bucknell during the Willard/Flannery era. I suppose one could argue on a lesser scale for Fordham and Fairfield from the MAAC years. Rivalries are at the core of what makes collegiate athletics tick and the lack of them along with a lot of losing, has led to a lot of empty seats and fan apathy for a long, long time. I realize I am not plowing new ground here but I thought it was worth posting when the topic of most-played opponents was broached.

Rivalries are getting tossed aside all over the place.
For years, Oklahoma's biggest rival was Nebraska. That was their game the weekend after Thanksgiving. One quick conference jump and now Oklahoma plays Oklahoma ST

That's a good thing.

Rivalries are getting tossed aside all over the place. For years, Oklahoma's biggest rival was Nebraska. That was their game the weekend after Thanksgiving. One quick conference jump and now Oklahoma plays Oklahoma ST The Nebraska-Oklahoma game as a season finale actually ended when both schools were still in the same conference. Both were members of the Big Eight through 1995. When those 8 schools merged with Southwest Conference powers Texas, Texas A&M, Baylor and Texas Tech, the Big 12 was born. Nebraska and Oklahoma ended up in opposite divisions. Unlike the SEC, the Big 12 didn't create a system of "primary partners" across divisions so the two were relegated to playing each other just twice out of four years up until Nebraska left for the Big Ten in 2011. While in the Big XII, Nebraska's rivalry weekend opponent was Colorado. Now it's Iowa since they've been in the BiG.

Any word if they have been practicing during this covid-pause? Any idea on resumption of play?

Thanks, hc87, was going to ask that myself. Five days since the postponement; God willing the cases are all resolved now with little after effects. Of course, HC, even if it were stipulated no names be mentioned; would still hesitate to tell us anything.
