A-10: No football. => NOT INVITEDBig East: No football. => NOT INVITEDIvy: No FCS tournament. => NOT INVITEDOf course we are not invited to any of these leagues anyway, but it would be distasteful to me to screw our co-founding PL Partners and unilaterally pull out of the Patriot League. I get the feeling that isn't important to some fans and I can understand. The most accessable of the three leagues you mention is the A-10. We would be going from BU with 33,000 total students to UMass Amherst with 32,000 and a State subsidy. The only savings would be a few cents on the turnpike toll to Rte. 91 to travel to UMass as I think that is a little less from Auburn than to go to Boston from the Rte.146 Turnpike exit. FIFY. If HC leaves the PL, the most likely landing spot is the America East Conference. And this is due to the fact that one day down the line, its possible that the America East could take over stewardship of Hockey East. If joining America East in all sports were to guarantee Holy Cross hockey a spot in the best hockey conference in the country, sign me up yesterday. In what world is Hockey East the best college hockey conference in the country??? They haven't been recently from top to bottom. They might have had UMass win the title last year but they are clearly not the top conference in the country.

So much speculation year after year after year--I think there is very little chance we will leave the PL in the foreseeable future For many years I thought the PL was a step down for HC and resented the move. Then gradually the league grew on me. Let's win a few PL titles and go to the NCAA tourneys in multiple sports.

The CAA would be the next most logical place for HC to go if we were to leave the PL. But given that the mid-major sports underworld has been abuzz the past 4 weeks regarding the topic of CAA expansion, and Holy Cross wasn't even mentioned, safe to say TPTB in Fenwick are happy in the Patriot League. Holy Cross and Fairfield as a package deal to the CAA would've been a nice feather in the cap for that league and would nicely bridge the geographical gap between Brookline and Long Island. Is there any level of weak play in the AHA that would give you pause before supporting HC accepting a move up to either HE or the ECAC if invited? I'm from the win the AHA first and then move up from strength camp but notice others favor joining HE regardless of ability to compete because being in the better league will generate better recruits resulting in a team that can compete in HE where it couldn't in the AHA because the AHA is so weak.

No publicity is a blessing with our current and recent records. In H.E. Holy Cross futility would be higher profile.

Understood -- and I still sometimes forget that the Big 10 is a hockey conference now, which I'm sure top-to-bottom is the strongest conference. And I'm sure the NCHC is probably slightly stronger. I haven't looked up college hockey conference RPI.

Talent seems pretty spread out, Atlantic Hockey excluded.
Last Big 10 team in the Frozen Four was in 2014. 3 of the 7 current members have overall records considerably under .500.
Top 20 by conference:
Big 10 4 ECAC 3 Hockey East 5 NCHC 6 CCHA 2 (but they do have the top ranked team, Minnesota State)

This discussion is pointless. Only way HC is ever leaving the pL is if the league folds and forces HC to find a new home. We can only hope....
