UMass Amherst buys Mt. Ida, UMAss Lowell buys Tsongas Arena. Marty Meehan is on quite a shopping spree. He must go to foreclosure auctions on weekends as a hobby. UMass Lowell has owned Tsongas since 2010.

To this layman, it seems like when it comes to medical matters, for every issue there are multiple studies and hundreds of researchers and physicians on one side of it ("treatment A is effective against malady X") and hundreds of researchers and physicians and multiple studies proving exactly the opposite ("treatment A, when used against malady X, causes death")

Just heard on the news that Kentucky is going through it's surge right now. We have to rely on the CDC, FDA, etc., as flawed as they are and our own PCPs I guess. They are all supposed to be working in our interest as opposed to proponents of one particular treatment over another who have a vested interest in that treatment.

I only learned a couple of weeks ago that the school now owns Tsongas. I think BU is decent analogy. They used to play some basketball at Agganis, but gave up on that. I don't know if Lowell draws better at Tsongas, but based on my tiny sample, it would be horrible to put that few people in that arena Before that, BU played some games at Walter Brown Arena when Pitino was coaching. Gave it up and went back to The Roof exclusively. The only reason for trying Agganis was that it was much nicer than Walter Brown. But, it was pretty much a foregone conclusion they wouldn't draw anyone; so back to The Roof again. Does anyone know of another D-1 arena with a weirder way to enter than the Roof? Buy ticket inside, go upstairs and walk outside on to the roof, then up some more stairs and back inside to the gym.

No. The Roof should be named for Carole King.

Very odd. We’ve only been once. The kids were like “Where the heck are we going???”

Harvard's previous gym, the Indoor Athletic Building, required climbing up to the 4th floor (or maybe the 5th).
Don't even think there was an elevator, pre-ADA days.

I was in the old gym for a basketball clinic..Digger Phelps was the coach at ND at the time. He was the "keynote speaker" and had a group of HS players on the court doing drills..He was in the kids faces the entire time! Didn't teach us much, nobody in the gym said anything or asked any questions at the conclusion....His voice reverberated in that old building, people were stopping and looking the door to see who was making all the noise! It was really an ancient gym!..(and a terrible clinic)

Dear Longsuffering,
You can either live or stay in your basement. Your choice. But I think we are being absolutely ridiculous in the Northeast.
I note the following: 1. Whether you have the Fauci shots or not, it seems that you can contract it and transmit. (Thank God we have cashiers and host folks at a variety of establishments checking to see if you have a vaccine card that makes absolutely no difference.) 2. Yes, there are people in the hospital. But, those numbers are greatly overstated as to whether it is COVID or something else. 3. People should be allowed to decide to live in the world or stay in their basement. I think we should end this nonsense.
Enjoy your basement

19000 at the Garden every night for the Knicks and Rangers - don't you think the media would be all over the story of a 'super spreader' if there was one ? We must learn to live with the virus - there are no guarantees in this world - make your decision on how (and where even in the basement) you want to live

But if a game is open to the public, people have a right to go.

Being a natural hermit, and not having kids, this whole thing has not affected me nearly as much as most others. To be honest, right now I'm probably as nervous about dealing with psycho people as much as the virus; guess I've been watching too many youtube videos. I can't see myself wanting to get on an airplane or stepping into a fast food joint anytime soon. I have visions of being cut down by bullets from some nut who got one too many pickles on his Double Quarterpounder with Cheese. Also want to say that it REALLY aggravates me to see people in the service industry taking abuse from some of these nutjobs, as if they are responsible for policy.

I put zero credibility in any "news" from social media. This same 50 percent stat was also reported on Boston's ABC TV affiliate. I do consider them a credible source. They also said in that report that no data was being reported on the vaccination percentages within the two newly defined groups

The cashier is safer being around people who have been vaccinated than those who have not. Typical elitist college graduate who doesn't give a #@*&$~! about service workers who usually don't get paid if they don't work and who have an incentive to try to avoid the virus at all costs. It cost you nothing to show the damn card when you are asked.

I don't know but the numbers tell this simpleton that it really hasn't. I see college students and fans all over the country enjoying themselves and having normal sports seasons. We can't seem to figure it out up here. We keep doing the same things over and over and over again. Time to move on. Rant over.
