A comedy of error after error after error. Since he fired Jimmy Johnson, everything Jerry Jones touches turns to mud. Neither team deserved to win but happy for Jimmy G.

Let this sink in:
The NY Jets have been to 3 conference championship games since the last time the Cowboys were in one. I believe they haven't been to the NFC chip since they beat the Packers in 1995 (January '96), en route to Super Bowl XXX win. In '96 (January '97) they lost to the Panthers in the Divisional Round IIRC.

The weird stat from the weekend I liked - prior to Saturday, no one had ever texted about a Bengal play-off win. The text was invented the year after they had most recently won.
I am surprised that America's Team hasn't been to the NFC championship in a quarter of a century

Other (sadly if you are a Pats fan, indicative of how badly their defensive unit collapsed down the stretch this season) factoid from the weekend. No NFL playoff game ever featured a team not (all 4 of them) turn the ball over (int/fumble, downs), punting, and kicking a field goal. I think if the Bills didn't take a knee at the end you could also say they scored a TD on every possession.

The Cowboys' lack of discipline on many occasions during the game was astounding. And, if Prescott called his own number at the end due to what the defense gave him, he's gotta know how long he can run before going down. One play from the 30 (if he went down when he probably should have) is not much different from one play from the 22; the umpire or whoever grabbed the ball did exactly what he's required to do.
What's the odds on McCarthy surviving after that?

What's the odds on McCarthy surviving after that? I think Prescott just caught up in the moment and wasn't thinking rationally. Was following split-second instinct. It was a REALLY BAD brain fart to have but not much you can really do about it but own up to making the mistake -- which he didn't seem to do last night. A QB whose played thousands of snaps obviously knows the umpire has to set the ball. If only NFL had the college rule where 1st down stops clock. Would've been a totally different scenario. Dallas would be short-sighted to fire McCarthy IMO. Who else do they have in mind to walk through that door?

What's the odds on McCarthy surviving after that? McCarthy was in full denial of the snap snafu after the game. He said the Cowboys should have had no problem getting the snap and spike off. I don't think he realized he was criticizing his own coaching because his players were extremely poorly coached during the final play. The run call rivals Pete Carroll's pass call except the stage was much bigger in the Superbowl when "Beast Mode" didn't get the ball and Wilson threw the interception instead.

I don't feel like breaking the decision all the way down in one mobile post right now but the Pete Carroll pass call wasn't the wrong call in that situation. That season 250 pass plays were run from the 1 yard line from Week 1 thru the postseason. ONE resulted in an interception and it happened in final minute of the Super Bowl. Lynch had also been stuffed in short yardage multiple times that game.

Not even close to the automatic you would suspect

Now that you two mention it, Beast Mode was probably already in decline at that point because he didn't do too much after that season. Pete Carroll would have been well aware of that but couldn't really acknowledge it directly.

Not even close to the automatic you would suspect Lynch was also at his best as a power runner after he got through the line. People talk about that situation in the Super Bowl as if Lynch was Mike Alstott.

Kellen Moore the OC is up for several NFL head coaching gigs The other really bizarre sequence was when Dallas successfully executed a fake punt, which gave them a first down; and they kept their punt unit on the field, ostensibly to confuse the Niners. It didn't and it burned 30 seconds off the clock plus a delay-of-game penalty (they got a field goal out of the drive). Down 16 points they couldn't afford to burn 30 seconds for a cockamamie scheme like that; even saving 10 of those seconds would have made a difference at the end of the ballgame.

Yep, it is very odd that the Cowboys forgot they have to switch out the kicking ball and then decided to sub their entire team off the field which gives the defense the same amount of time to sub.
