I wonder if David Borges is related to Ron Borges, legendary bad boy Boston Sportswriter who managed to get himself fired from not only the Globe but the Herald, too?
UConn can't stop the stupidity. Ollie wins a national championship and they think they can stiff him?

UConn called the arbitrator's decision "nonsensical", which is pretty strong language. But if the decision is affirmed someone at UConn really screwed up.

UConn tried to use the NCAA infractions as an excuse to get out of paying Ollie. They were already intent on firing him for no longer winning games. He was not fired for breaking the rules. If UConn cared about rules, Calhoun would have been fired previously. He however wasn't as he kept winning.

January 20, 2022 4:18 AM Unfortunately, although you probably have to spend a minimum amount to get in contention there is no maximum amount you can spend to buy a national championship. I hope UConn hasn't painted themselves into a corner where national championships are their primary measuring stick because the championships they've won have been with Geno's and Calhoun's players with no guarantees they will ever win another one no matter how high the deficit. Neither one of those coaches is walking through that door again in their prime. |

As a former Connecticut resident and taxpayer, I'm glad that I am a "former." Really, forget about a payout of $11 M, what in the heck is he, or any college head coach, making that much money?
I know I am the voice crying out in the wilderness and many here will defend our capitalistic economy that "people get paid what they're worth". Our society's values are screwed up as there are so many, many jobs that should be valued more highly.
End of rant.

College costs may be in an unsustainable bubble but it is comforting that HC can seek quality head coaches for our sports in the six figures range and still compete for championships in D-1.

Competing means HC plays the games with a chance to win. It does not say HC wins those games.

Competing, and just won three in a row, D-1 Patriot League Championships. I should have been more specific. The only national D-1 championship that would be conceivable although unlikely is FCS.
But the PL is D-1 and is affordable for Holy Cross.

The provisions of Ollie's contract that benefit him are enforceable but the provisions that benefit UCONN are overridden by the union contract. HC is nonunion if I understand correctly.
