We can't recruit against the Ivy League, A-10, or Big East. The Patriot League is holding us back. I watch on TV the A-10 and Big East games and the product we put on the floor makes people not interested. I have been a season ticket holder since the 1960's and it hurts to see the games that we have to watch. I hope the AD and administration sit down and see what can be done to improve the basketball program.

Well you win now or we remove the coach and begin again- easy formula i would call it a day now but that is a call for KH How would you structure a search for a replacement so we don't go from the frying pan into the fire with a poor fit as head coach who has a long term guaranteed contract but no track record of success as a head coach?

Has our search firm earned another bite at the apple? This search should be free if the selection didn't make it through his contract, but if the selection they led you to fails, do you even want them, free or not?
Or is the search firm blameless and the AD who chooses among finalists wholly responsible for the choice? Not that there is anything we can do about a former AD, unlike with the search firm.

L/S, some of us have come to the conclusion that Carmody was the frying pan and Nelson is the fire. We are already there.🔥
I repeat that, for me, he gets the rest of this season to prove he’s salvageable. I strongly doubt he’ll do that but 3 seasons, even if one was shortened, is enough to know whether you’ve got the right captain of the ship.

No more assistant coaches getting their first head coach job at Holy Cross. Period. Non negotiable. Do these geniuses at the search firms not know there is a world of difference between being an assistant and being a leader?

Mike Brennan’s record this year is terrible, but he looks to have a weekly show.
Why doesn’t Nelson care to give anything?
Time to face the music. To quote Dan Hawkins: “it’s division one football”

Realistically, Nelson has a month to pull a rabbit out of the hat and save his job. He may pick up a few wins, but we watch this program day in and day out....the improvement is not there and I do not anticipate it will be. At some stage over the next month, Kit should probably inform the staff that a change is coming. I'm sure there is enough speculation amongst the players & coaching staff already about what is to come next and it should come as no surprise if the College moves in another direction. Frankly, I think it's the right thing to do. In the meantime, the search committee should be formed and shortlist written up. Zero in on a target in March, get him through the door, and rebuild the roster ASAP through whatever means possible.

Any AD worth his/her salt can identify coaching candidates without using a tit-for-tat ferkakta search firm. However if Hughes was found and hired via a search firm, expect that same firm to be retained to find the next coach when it happens. This is how it operates, and it's understood by the AD who got hired.

They seem to be stuck on guys who look good in a suit at an introductory press conference and have had a string of increasingly senior SUBORDINATE positions at schools HC is happy to be associated with, as if those schools' academic or athletic prowess will be transferred to HC with the new hire.
HC got none of the higher level athletic performance of ND, Marquette or BC and none of the higher level academics of Brown, Princeton or Northwestern when SK, NP, BC, MB and BN arrived.
The two coaches who are winning, Chesney and Magarity may or may not have been the result of a search firm, I can't recall.
I'm lumping Coach Carmody in there. He actually had head coaching experience and was a good recruiter as Green, Grandison, Butler and Faw are all still starting in D-1. He just seemed to run out of gas.

To quote Dan Hawkins: “it’s division one football” It's a web-only show, of course, but yes, he does. And he does postgame almost after every game, including on the road. He does miss some here and there if we're flying back immediately after, but usually, he does at least a few minutes. I don't know how a D1 coach can opt not to do media.

HC has cover to reduce capacity now that they stream every game live and have and always have had the DCU in the small chance that HC pulls off a Final Four run that electrifies the region like the PC and UMass runs did. Some arenas now have chairback roll away stands which don't look forced or out of place. UMass has an arena to die for but they can't seem to recapture the Coach Cal "Refuse to Lose" phenomenon even though they have been through as many coaches as Holy Cross has. I’d bet the ranch that UMass will be looking for a new head coach before HC.

Nelson, IMHO, is below average in this regard.

I don't see what's wrong with the Hart, and furthermore, I don't think any recruit cares one bit whether or not I have to sit my fat a$$ on a plastic bleacher seat. I bet most non major arenas have at least some push back seating. If there are fans in the stands its a moot point.
Sometimes timing is everything. Imagine if the Luth had been built around 2003 or so, and RW had been able to leverage the newness of the place to land a couple of higher level players. Then let's really visit Fantasyland, and assume HC replaced RW with a quality coach. Probably wouldn't be a lot of purple plastic showing at games.
Not a huge PL fan, but to me low D-1s are pretty similar. Their fortunes in my mind seem to be driven by the quality of the coaches at any particular point in time.

As measured by offers, Nelson’s recruiting is much better than Carmody’s. The bigger issue is that the results have been terrible once Nelson’s recruits have arrived. Part of that is because other than Gates, none of them have played a full continuous D1 season yet. Hard to expect great results given that fact though the results should definitely be better than kenpom 350. But realistically, based on the level of inexperience, I’m not sure we should be much better. Maybe kenpom 275-300 range would be in line with expectations?

Yes we’re young and inexperienced and that’s going to be challenging but I think the thing Kit needs to figure out is how many wins above replacement BN gives us relative to the average D1 BBall coach. My guess would be that number would be at or below zero. I think the guys who have been consistently successful in the PL have had a pretty high WAR. Let’s find one of those guys as evidenced by success at a lower level or even a similar or higher level followed by a promotion that didn’t work out (see Willard, Ralph).

Who is he doing these post game interviews with? There were pre and post game interviews for every game back when HC had radio coverage. HC doesn't have that anymore. I have no idea who decides if the ESPN+ guys do a post game interview or not. I did not see a Telegram reporter at the last game. Frankly, I'm not sure if Coach Nelson is opting not to do media or if the media is opting not to do HC

It's all about the COACH, not the arena. The Hart Center is perfectly fine for a successful HC hoop program if you brought in the right coach. It's all about recruiting the right players and coaching them up. Take a look at the McKeon Pavilion that the St Mary's Gaels of California call home. They are one of the most successful mid-major programs in the country and McKeon seats 3,500 and is eerily similar to the Hart Center. Gonzaga comes in there once a year to play them because they are in the same conference.
Get the basketball equivalent of Coach Chesney and the program will be a winner in short order.

Two minutes of video taken with a staffer's phone and posted to HC website and social media channels would suffice.
Funny how Nelson spoke after the lone D1 win, but nothing before or since.
That he shot down in-person coaches nites when connection with fans was desperately needed, especially after the last two seasons, tells you everything you need to know.

I'll ask again: At what point does the statute of limitations run out on this "inexperience" excuse?
And who is responsible for the inexperience? Carmody? Blossom? The Administration? Fr. Boroughs?
