Tough for a low riding dog like my basset hound to do his business when his undercarriage is covered w/snow, which it would be if I didn't get rid of some of it.

You could have a Great Dane in Syracuse and his undercarriage would be dragging in snow.😂

One path went under the deck - shelter for them (2 West Highland Terriers) to take care of business.

Well we had a blizzard, 18+ inches yesterday with 50 mph gusts. The cocker spaniel trampled with me through the snow on his leash.

So, you essentially trampled down the deep snow with your feet rather than use a snow shovel or snowblower but in the end you did the same thing.
An alternative method. I’m sure your dog appreciated your efforts.
