And Lafayette head coach makes herself available after every home game to answer Qs with the broadcast win, lose, or draw. Classy.

So, first piece of news, McCormack was out due to COVID protocols, I wonder if that was BPC issue also.

Fascinating article. Katherine Clifford was a track athlete at HC. I assume Sacred Heart HS is now long gone. Jack McCarthy who played Freshman basketball at HC went to another small Catholic HS in Newton that I presume is also long gone. The writer brought out how gender equality expectations have progressed. The thinking behind six on six basketball must have been that girls shouldn't be running the full length of the court, that it wasn't lady like or something. That version of girls basketball was incredibly popular in Iowa and that state resisted changing to five on five for quite a while

This has been a classic case of a game of runs. We go up big on a run, they have a run and close the gap. Hopefully the game will end on a big Crusader run.🤞 Kind of frustrating game, but always tough to win on the road. Lafayette's foul shooting is, fortunately for us, beyond bad. Kept us a few points ahead instead of a few points behind.

Mike the sideline reporter told the LC coach that her team was the best team on the floor at many points but just couldn't keep it up consistently.
I didn't see it that way. HC has senior leadership this season in a way we didn't have it when Manis and Swords were seniors because Avery is the point guard and controls the game. You can't key on her and shut down the offense because then her distribution skills and experience sting you.

The Leopards downfall was Jessica Booth reinjuring her ankle and out for the rest of the game. It would be like us losing Avery.

Congrats to the women on another big W. We are now 8-2 in the conference, one game back of BU. Impressive job by Coach Magarity, her staff and all of the players.

Boy, Berger's got a heck of a long way to go. Glad she gets opportunities, however; whatever it takes to keep her on an upward trajectory.

The late Jim Loscutoff would like our frontcourt of Ezemma, Allen and Berger. Ms. Berger has a couple of good players to emulate.

Swords was a project also as I recall but improved steadily. She always had some deficits but became a good contributor.

That version of girls basketball was incredibly popular in Iowa and that state resisted changing to five on five for quite a while Yes. And in Iowa the girls game drew far bigger crowds than did the boys when it came to the state tournament. But a lawsuit forced the state to begin offering the five on five game around 1985 and eventually six on six disappeared. One interesting statistic is that in 1970, 20% of all the girls in the country participating in sports were residents of Iowa. One other related item is that New Jersey had their own version of 6v6 where there were two offensive players, two defensive players, and two players who could play both offense and defense.

Watching such games in NJ (at Immaculate Heart Academy) made me wonder if we would ever have real basketball for girls in our state.

Swords was a project also as I recall but improved steadily. She always had some deficits but became a good contributor. Swords struggled a fair amount early in the season, especially on offense, was always a very good defender. BG certainly had a great deal of faith in her as she began to play better, she then tore her ACL during the PL season, @ Colgate I think. Circumstance were a bit different as Manis started & Hasenauer was first off the bench. That team underperformed by a wide margin. Individually they were very good, Doherty, Byrne Thomas-Waheed & Ganser - but no chemistry. Megan struggles continued into the first part of her sophomore year, but she steadily improved thereafter.

Which Ganser was on that team? Ganser the younger never impressed me, but maybe I saw the wrong games.
Thomas-Waheed's hs coach was Judson Martindale's mom.

Maddie, the younger sister. She was not flashy, but a good support player
