Do you know if HC stays in a hotel before Harvard and Brown road games and if those schools book rooms in Worcester the Friday night before they play at Fitton?I don't think Harvard built it's endowment pouring money down the drain. Could Merrimack possibly afford to book a hotel for 100 people before their game at Fitton? Sounds absurd to me. Both are day trips. UMASS also used to be a day trip. Yale used to be an overnight. I imagine UCONN was a day trip for us as well. Sanity. Put the money into coaching salaries.

Those schools have way to many local options for a money game within a day's drive for it to make sense to fly Holy Cross down to Charlottesville or Durham and pay for an overnight. They are always paying an overnight no matter if the school is 5 miles away. No D-1 school is staying on campus before a road game. I meant BUS trips, not day trips back and forth same day, sorry. I'm sure Richmond and William & Mary stay overnight in Charlottesville the night before playing $$ games at UVA. What I meant was that there would be no reason for UVA or Duke to fly Holy Cross down there when they have so many schools within bus trip range. According to fbsschedules.com, upcoming FCS opponents are as follows: UVA - Richmond (2022, 2024 & 2028), William & Mary (2023) and Norfolk State (2026) Duke - North Carolina A&T (2022) and Lafayette (2023) => typically they almost always play an FCS school in-state so the Lafayette game is a little bit of an anomaly, though probably still a bus trip at 7 and a half hours or so drive.

The FBS school can pay whatever it wants to get the opponents it wants. If Duke pays NC A&T $300K, it’s all the same to them if they pay us $300K and we make less margin than the local school. They may want to play local schools for a variety of reasons but it’s mot because they would have to pay us extra to fly down there. Likewise: if there are two $300K options on the table, we may well choose the one with lower travel expenses to increase our profit.

I know we used to stay in local hotel/motels (Holiday Inn, say what???) before home games in the 1980s. I think the HC campus was a little crazier on Friday nights then, so it may not be needed as much today.
