Barn burner 56-55 Navy with 4.9 seconds left. Loyola ball coming out of a time out. Loyola gets two open shots. Clang. Navy wins. Big crowd in Baltimore. Many Loyola students. Loyola coach marches right past his planned interview into the locker room.

We now hit the guts of an at best average league.
These results remind me of the Gilmore years in football.
As good as this win feels it is the same story
Let’s win as many as we can in the next month, give coaches a chance to leave on a high note, and help Vince and Kit make a move that allows all of the players and fans the chance to get ready for a special future
This is not a downer or hate comment. I want to win and the current staff to be successful, but I also want us to have a staff that can get us to a much different level. At 70 plus I don’t have years to waste waiting for something good to be in our future, nor do a majority of the supporters

Could your heart take firing Brett now that the team has started to click and hiring a new mediocre coach with the clock starting fresh on a new four or five year contract even while the existing contract is still being paid?
Is there any evidence that Kit would have any more skill making his first hire than Marcus had? Aren't Kit and Marcus basically clones when it comes to background and training upon being hired by HC? (Both very fine representatives of Holy Cross, btw)
I am unfamiliar with the details of the NBA salary cap, but isn't Holy Cross currently in the driver's seat in the sense we have a coach with an upcoming "expiring contract" as they say with NBA players?
Why blow the program up for the second time in three years when we are finally beating winning teams? Especially with no evidence of lack of effort by coaches or players and no evidence of poor behavior or dissension.

The future is bright with HCBN! Go Cross Go!!! (Has HOF HCBC ever won two consecutive pL road games against teams with a winning record? Dunno)

That's the crux of it. Will this be the beginning of a new, positive trend? If so, I'm on board with keeping Nelson. If, on the other hand, we only win another 2-3 games the rest of the season, then it might be best to look elsewhere. In any case, whenever Nelson leaves, end of this season or 10 years from now, I sure hope we won't be "hiring a new mediocre coach."

Holy Cross basketball has taken some very positive if unexpected, strides in the last 8 days. Let's enjoy it and see how the rest of February plays out.

Nice win.
The 1 thing I would say is we need to stop with the idea that the PL has great coaches.
Outside of Langel who really has had success?
Some are much better recruiters but coaches. It’s a tossup

I'd love to see what that Coulibaly guy could do Strange that he didn't, considering how many large oafs the Cadets had out there.

The increased aggressiveness on offense actually seems to be resulting in fewer turnovers. Hope that continues.
Still thinking that the increased number of games in February can turn out to be a blessing in disguise. At the very least, more games to watch while they are getting their act together.

Gates made the second of two free throws w/about 5 minutes left; subsequent to that Luc made a pair three times in a row.
Given 21-26 at the line was the total for the game, then the comment was made by the announcer after Gates' second shot.
I think Nelson's final rant was protesting a non-goaltending call, not trying to call time out. I watched the play 3 times, the first time I thought the Army kid took the ball off the rim; but rerunning the sequence I think the officials got it right.

I was sitting in front of that hoop. I thought it was goaltending. Wouldn't have been the first call these guys missed. Ref may have had a much better angle however. And Nelson definitely wanted goaltending

I had the same experience as Tim. I thought it was clear goal tending, but after several subsequent looks, I have to agree with the officials.

I thought the ball was on the rim when I saw it live (as did Nelson) but didn’t do the frame-by-frame replay to check.

What I love the most about the game was how our undersized “center” quietly got a double double while totally dominating their two men - outscoring their two combined totals and helping to get them both to foul out, while he only had one foul. Granted that neither of the two Army players are likely to get post season honors, but still a sweet performance from Geralle.

not much else to add other than it's nice to generate a little bit of excitement over the program for the first time in a long while. let's hope we keep it going against a pretty good (by pl standards) colgate team.

Granted that neither of the two Army players are likely to get post season honors, but still a sweet performance from Geralle. For most of the first half, I was chasing my 2 year old daughter up and down the SRO seats in the rafters. So I missed a bunch of Gates' big buckets during that stretch. Getting 54 and 55 on Army in foul trouble was for us late in the game. As always, I had a great time at West Point as we continue to play well in that gym. Something is brewing with this team. You could see the energy on the bench all game and the pure exhilaration on their faces as they ran off the court after the game. We look like a young, hungry team that is now actually capable of competing at the Division I level. Lehigh, BU and Army are all solid Patriot League teams this year. Let's see if the energy we've seen the past 2 weeks continues. Colgate always a tough road game for Holy Cross, even dating back to the Willard days.

I wonder if this little streak helps to support the theory that it takes a while for a team that has one player with a full year of D-I college experience to grow into the college game
