At least according to a recent book, Amaker was Duke’s choice, but Coach K vetoed it. Frankly, with good reason.

There is an opening at Jefferson University, née Philadelphia Textile, as Herb Magee retired at 81 after 54 seasons as head coach. I don’t think we had landed on the Moon yet when he was hired. Woodstock was a thought, maybe, in someone’s mind.

Those were some great battles in the mid-80s.

Why hasn't Nathan Davis been relieved of duties at Bucknell yet? What are they waiting for?

Depending on the athletic genes, not unreasonable to think he could have coached some of his earlier players' grandkids.
To put things in a Crusader perspective, the only grandfather/grandson combo I can think of are Ron and Matt Perry from the baseball team. I'm fairly certainly certain Jack Barry did not coach all 3 generations of Perrys

Never heard of him but he has a career record of l55-133 between stops at Wright State and UMKC. His first college job was one year as an assistant at American in the 99-00 season. Can’t imagine the reaction here would be particularly positive if that’s the type of hire we make whenever our job is next open.

In the middle of a six-year contract with UMKC that runs through March 31, 2025. Donlon will earn a base salary of $350,000.04 annually with the opportunity to earn performance-based incentives. They’re outlined below. $2,500 – For every win against a team ranked in the AP Top 25 or Coaches Poll at the time of the game. $5,000 – If UMKC wins at least 20 games in a season. $10,000 – If UMKC participates in the NCAA Tournament. $5,000 – For each win in the NCAA Tournament. $5,000 – If UMKC participates in the NIT. $2,000 – If UMKC participates in a nationally recognized postseason tournament other than the NCAA Tournament or NIT. $5,000 – If Donlon is named Coach of the Year in the conference. $10,000 – If Donlon is named National Coach of the Year. $2,500 – If UMKC’s single-year APR score is above 985 and the multi-year score is above 985.

I can't imagine American is paying Brennan or their next head coach a base salary of $350K.

I can't imagine American is paying Brennan or their next head coach a base salary of $350K. True. Maybe it’s a family thing and he wants to be in the DC area. He was 19-12, 12-6 this year at UMKC and finished tied for third. They lost in their first playoff game to the 5 seed (they were 4) so maybe the fans don’t feel like he’s the one even after a decent season in Year 3.

I have known his dad, Bill as well, also a long time coach, for quite a while. The dad is originally from Queens, coached HS on Long Island before college. The son had some good teams at Wright State. I spoke with Brennan Sunday. He is not expecting to be fired.

Can't believe the same guy who coached those teams, coached there this season.

Maybe Nelson could hire Herb as an advisor?
(I'm only mostly kidding)

That will surprise many of the people in Pittsburgh, unless they can negotiate a much cheaper buyout than his contract specifies. Right now, if he is fired, Pitt owes him $17 million. If they wait another year to fire him that number declines to $5 million.

There's a guy at Franklin High that I reffed a soccer game for in grad school that is still the coach there. 51 years.

Isn't UMKC going into the Missouri Valley Conference next year? UIC, Belmont and Murray State are on the move to the MVC. UMKC (or Kansas City) doesn't seem to be moving from the Summit.
