SEC is axing coaches at a historic rate. Will Wade, Tom Crean, Frank Martin, Ben Howland, Cuonzo Martin. Mike White also moving a step ahead of the posse. Some pretty big names. Who says they only care about football? Only going to get worse when it's 16 teams instead of 14. Same for football.

Who's the next Maryland coach? Boomer Esiason (who went to Md) announced on his morning show in NYC that his sources have told him that Maryland has made their choice. He refused to say who it was because "I don't want to ruin it for the kids he is currently coaching". When pressed, all he would say was that it was a coach of a team that was still alive in the Dance after Thursday's games. That narrows it down to 48 coaches. Any educated guesses? Kevin Willard then Holloway to Seton Hall, his Alma mater After watching Willard's post game news conference, there is no doubt in my mind that you are 100% correct.
Skip to the 35:10 mark and listen.

Sean Miller back to Xavier. Cheating is rewarded, once again. While two Jesuit schools, St.Peter’s and Gonzaga, are currently representing well, Xavier is following the Kentucky, Auburn, Houston (choose your cheater) example.

I don't understand your emphasis on permanent punishment. If any official punishment has been served why should there be continued informal or "unwritten rule" punishment barring coaches like Pitino and this fellow who I know nothing about from working in their profession again? I do appreciate your high moral code, but I relate this to someone who has his driver's license suspended but not revoked. The intent is he is eligible to drive like anyone else when the suspension has been served.

I do appreciate your high moral code, but I relate this to someone who has his driver's license suspended but not revoked. The intent is he is eligible to drive like anyone else when the suspension has been served. For starters Miller didn't actually serve any official punishment. He was relieved of his coaching responsibilities but Arizona honored his contract. There is no rule, written or otherwise, that prevents these guys from working in their profession again. I'm not saying they should get a lifetime ban. However, I do think this kind of a hire makes a statement about the school. While some see it as as the school showing forgiveness, I see it as a statement that when winning is concerned the ends justifies the means. Xavier is in the Big East. Big time athletics is big business. I'm not saying the school is going to condone illegal payments to players (one of the allegations against Miller at Arizona), but I do think they're saying they want to push the envelope of the gray area as far as possible, preferably without egregiously crossing the line. That's what it takes to be successful in the semi pro ranks of big time college athletics. In terms of Pitino, I would expect a little more out of a mid major. When a school like Iona (or, as some here wish. HC) hires a coach who has cheating in the playbook, it tells me that school wants to embrace the worst aspects of college athletics. For what it's worth, I might place more credibility in the forgiveness and redemption spin, if one of these guys actually admitted doing something wrong. The closest thing I can remember hearing is being sorry for embarrassing the school. I don't think I've ever heard a disgraced coach say "Yup, I broke the rules and I was wrong. I won't do it again." I might be convinced that a Pitino or Miller won't cheat again if they actually acknowledged that they did something wrong. Forgiveness is a wonderful thing, but it does require genuine remorse

The LaSalle job is tough and the school itself is not in great financial & enrollment shape. The Explorers along with Fordham are probably the two hardest places in the A-10 to win. Dr John Giannini did however have one great year there in 2013 going to the NCAA Sweet-16. Was unfortunately never able to build upon it. LaSalle is being further left in the dust in the A-10 facilities and salaries arms race as the years move on.

Sounds like LaSalle may have to go with the "unproven" route again, unless they look at D-2/3 head coaches. Outside of the fact that it's Philly/Big Five, not sure what else would make it attractive for Langel. There would have to be a better gig for him some where (?)

I hope Xavier will watch him like a hawk and the guy can actually coach without his "steroids" of cheating if the allegations were actually true.

In more upbeat coaching carousel news (especially for Rhody fans like myself), it is officially MILLER TIME in Rhode Island as a press conference welcoming and introducing new coach Archie Miller took place at the URI Visitor Center today on its Kingston campus. His postseason resume includes four NCAA (5-4) and two NIT (2-2) appearances, the highlight of which was a 2014 NCAA Elite-8 with the Flyers of the A-10. Miller was quickly identified as the prime coaching target for URI and was brought to Kingston with the help of influential URI alums Tom Ryan (former CVS CEO whom the Ryan Center is named for) and Mike Fascitelli (Milwaukee Bucks co-owner and benefactor of the URI Student Fitness Center named for his mother) who made direct telephone appeals to him as part of a full court team effort to secure his services.
