Can’t believe this outrage hasn’t been mentioned here but the 2022 HC calendar, which I just looked at for the first time, is a disaster. Here are descriptions of the 12 photos with my color commentary:
Jan - pic of the top of Alumni with the cross taken from Kimball. Can only see the very top of the building 4/10
Feb - chopped off shot of the main reading room of Dinand (through a window in the door); all you can see are 5 chairs, one with a student in it and the bottom half of 4 pillars 2/10
March - sunset pic through the window of the chapel at the Joyce; pretty picture 5/10
April - pic of the side of Hogan with the Cross on its some blurred pink flowers in the front 3/10
May - zoomed in shot of windows of Haberlin; for windows, I award you no points 0/10
June - bench outside of Dinand; one point for the partial Christmas tree in the background; would have awarded another point for Forrest Gump sitting on it but, alas, it’s empty 1/10
July - light fixture outside the chapel; that’s it, just a light fixture; I have the same one outside my garage but not putting it in the family calendar -3/10
August - oh good, a pic of the Chapel and the Jesuit cemetery; only problem is that it’s all blurred and reminds me of my pre-cataract surgery vision 1/10
September - zoomed in shot of the crappy aluminum bleachers at Fitton; one of the best grass surfaces in all of college football and we show a few rows of empty bleacher seats? Come on, man. -11/10
October - pic of the clock tower from a window in Fenwick; not terrible but kind of dark and no pumpkins or foliage which is a big miss in my book for October. 4/10
November - zoomed in shot of a wood carving with loaves and fishes above a door into Kimball; was always too focused on getting to the three hot lines to ever have noticed this so it doesn’t speak to me 2/10
December - stained glass window in the back of Mary Chapel; pretty window but give me a Christmas pic for December after making me suffer through the lights fixtures and bleachers all year 3/10
Overall, I guess the calendar is supposed to be some sort of scavenger hunt and the creators thought it would be fun to have all these zoomed in photos of random places on campus so people could try to figure out where they are. Maybe that’s an okay idea on one page in the back as a fun activity. For the main photos, can we show some wide shots with seasonal pics of our gorgeous campus for the love of Pete? If any part of the purpose of this calendar is marketing, it’s not good marketing.
