Have to give Nelson credit for this stretch. The season was spiraling out of control and I thought we were looking at two or three D1 wins, but he has the team looking like they know how to play basketball.

All five Holy Cross wins (v. D1) have been by two possessions or less.

Do wins by more count for more? We are seeing a team that now knows how to win close games. Fantastic!

We scored vs zone in the first half. Imagine that.

They have been playing much better overall since the decision to take JM out of the starting lineup, reduce his minutes, and give them to Townsel/Kenney/Dorsey. Bo has been a reliable volume scorer last four games, inside and out.

Won 4 of last 5. Is the bandwagon rolling? Banged my knee hopping on, but I'm in.

HC shot 52% from the floor (55% on twos). Points in paint - HC, 42-30.

Outstanding win coming off the Colgate loss 48 hours prior, and short handed without Townsell (+ RJJ).
I continue to be extremely impressed with the toughness the team is showing in withstanding second half runs, remaining composed, and then burying teams in crunch time. A major testament to the culture that HCBN has committed to building.
Aside the from the Carmody 4 Games in March run, this may be the best stretch of basketball that HC has played since 2009. And unlike that flukey run that was fueled by the 1-3-1, this is being fueled by a young team that continues to get better and better.
We are a year ahead of schedule right now if this type of play keeps up and we march towards the top of the pL.
Go Cross Go!!

Bo goes the distance with forty minutes - averaging 34 last four G, 18-33 (9-16) FG. And quality defense.

Interesting that with MT out, Nelson shortened the bench further, went with just seven guys (and a token two minutes from JM)

Good win. The kids hung tough. Whatever you want to say about Coach Nelson, this young team has gotten better over the course of the season. Kit Hughes was circulating at halftime. He introduced himself to my group and thanked us for supporting HC sports. Spent about 5 minutes with us. Very personable guy. I think we got a good one.

Quality win - Loyola has some big bodies and we competed physically throughout the game, thanks to GG who plays much bigger than his 6'5" height (don't tell me he's 6'6") Vegas is amazing - pt total was 132.5 (the under wins by '0.5 pt' !)

Great win. Pardon my irrational exuberance, but I am very pleased with the way the team is coming together and very optimistic about next year. Assuming most key players return plus the addition of RJJ and Batchelder, we will, as Dick Williams once said, win more than we lose. The trajectory is definitely up. Go Cross Go!!

A gutty win tonight. These guys work so hard on D, they have transformed the defense! Bo did a solid job on Spencer, and really tightened up the D in the last few minutes.. Each player has improved, and they are finding their nitch in the offense. Luc has ice water in his veins as the saying goes...Nelson has done a great job teaching this tea, how to play as a winner! In crunch time, there is no fear out there, and they attack on D....They are doing a great job switching on D and recovering.. It was nice to have students at the game, just wish they would get a little bit more involved...

Just caught the very end as I had a game too...have to say, a month or so ago, I would not have believed I'd be able to say the sentence "We've won our last 4 out of 5 PL games."
On to Bucknell.

A good win but there was some sloppy play on offense and lack of concentration on defense. Must continue to get better. Five of the next seven (or four of seven and a PL tournament win) and I say BN gets to keep his job.

May make the haters sick to go back and watch, but my favorite play of the night was at the 8:30 mark in the second half.
HC up 3. Previous possession was ugly and ended in a forced air ball 3 from Luc.
Next time down the floor Nelson called out a set that was executed tremendously. Luc drove to the block for option 1 with Louth sealing up the lane to see if they could sneak in a dump off, but the play was really designed to kick out to Gates on the perimeter who filled in behind Luc’s drive. Gates reversed the ball to Dorsey, Louth avoided a 3-second call and spaced out to the strong side corner as the ball was reversed to Dorsey, pulling his defender out of the paint. Luc set in the weakside short corner, where Bo was spaced out to the 3 point line in the corner. Bo walked his guy (Spencer) toward Luc and then showed a tremendous change of pace to explode under the hoop for an on-time pass from Dorsey and easy layup. If Luc and Bo’s guys got crossed up on Bo’s cut, Luc was working his way up off a pin down from Gates.
Great ball movement, great spacing, great speed and timing on cuts — all signs of a team that is being coached and young guys who are learning how to be successful in D1 basketball.
Go Cross Go!!

Five of the next seven (or four of seven and a PL tournament win) and I say BN gets to keep his job. This is a brutal stretch of games! I would say that if we win five of the last seven, Kit should keep his contract signing pen warm from the Chesney ceremony yesterday. Would love to see us go 3-0 against Bucknell, American, and LaughU, then 2 of 4 @navy, vs BU, Colgate, and Army would be excellent given how difficult it’s going to be to manage this stretch, especially if RJJ and Townsell aren’t available. Even if we go 4-3, that will mean we ended the regular season winning 8 of 12 games with the least experienced team in the pL. The idea that there would even be consideration for not bringing HCBN back for that type of a performance is downright absurd. But let’s go win all 7! Go Cross Go!!!!

I’m excited that we are no doubt making strides. But beating three bad teams in the span of five games isn’t the best stretch since 2009. You’re reaching. Carmody was a bad hire and didn’t accomplish much as head coach, but the non-conference in 2018-19 was objectively good. We won nine of 11 games and had nice wins against a good Stony Brook team, road wins against UMass and Iona, and blew at FDU that went to the tournament. We are ranked 348 by Pomeroy after tonight.

JM not seeing much action--2 minutes played. OK- guys who are going to play in the game sit in the front row, the rest of the guys that dressed, sit in the back. Kind of an odd look.
