I will leave it to those who are experts in the field but logic tells me that a player with a high football IQ can more than make up for a little less speed by anticipating where a play is going and being a shorter distance to the play than a quicker player who's a little less "smart." In most of College football, yes. In the NFL, every player that gets even a cup of coffee with a team has a high football IQ. Not to diminish those rare elite NFL players that make up for a relative lack of athleticism (Brady and Manning the obvious examples) with an unparalleled (almost freakish) ability to break down the opposition thru preparation and reflexive decision making skills in the moment. But everyone in the NFL is football “smart.”

A very insightful, provocative hot take from the head coach of Idaho on the state of FCS & Group of 5 FBS football. From his lips…would be ideal long term solution for many universities/football programs in both cohorts.
Edit* I fully realize this post should not go on this thread but since we will be starting a seperate “Preseason Fall Camp” thread in just a short couple weeks I figured whatever….

I'm not up to date on all the rules and regulations of the NCAA--I did not know that incoming players were allowed to be at HC before the official start of practice. Is HC allowed to house and feed them before they enroll? Umass football freshmen moved in last weekend http://instagram.com/p/Cf2AuTCPZpM

herosports.com/fcs-football-top-returning-2022-offensive-linemen-bzbz/Hot off the Press! Luke Newman gets Honorable Mention recognition. Nick Olsofka checks in at #22! Other takeaways: 1) Only one 2022 opponent listed - #23 Phil Saleh from Fordham 2) Only one Ivy player listed - Hon Men from Princeton. Herder has lots of respect for the top Ivy programs so this surprised me as a conference that tends to have very good O-lines on the top squads. 3) NSDU and SDSU are just stacked in the trenches.

2022 football roster has been updated and now lists specific position groupings for the defensive backs on the current roster (CB, FS, SS).

That might be the true benefit of the PL or mid major programs where players stick around for their college career

herosports.com/fcs-football-top-returning-2022-defensive-linemen-bzbz/Dan Kuz with Honorable Mention recognition. Only other PL player listed is Lafayette’s Malik Hamm at #12. Personally, I was more impressed with Peprah from SHU (also honorable mention) than Hamm, but Malik is a good player. Other 2022 HC opponents listed are Jack Daly from Bryant (Hon Men), and Yale’s Clay Patterson (also Hon Men).
