Major kudos to Chesney not letting ego get in the way with DiMichele, Smith, and Vaganek and simply dismissing them because they were on Gilmore's staff (and also left to join Gilmore, in DiMichele's case) so he could have a staff of "his guys." This is a very impressive staff of coaches with a great mix of guys who have an HC background, along with some much needed fresh blood that Chesney brought in (James, Grautski, etc.). You're something else. Jeeze, you're really turning into a Sader Snowflake, huh? BBC Derangement Syndrome is a real thing, I guess. It is extremely common for coaches to clear out all holdovers from the previous staff and not want to mix the previous coach's guys with "his guys." It's a major positive that Chesney didn't do that. Alright, back to your Safe Space!

I have to imagine an announcement about the RB Coach will be coming out soon to round out the staff.
Although I think they were were working on a new Director of Football Operations as well.

Just a thought... It seems to me the former Offensive Coordinator was terrific. We can only hope the current OC will be as good.

He brings lots of experience and no disrespect to Izzy but this is a major step up. I also think he will be able to help Chris Smith with game calling based on his experience. Spring ball starts this Friday.

Rich Gunnell- age 35- WR at bc who caught 181 passes for 2,459 yards and 18 TD's. Went to camp as undrafted free agent with Chiefs but was cut before start of the NFL season. He went to Notre Dame HS in New Jersey

What a guy to be adding to the program.
Between him and Dimichele returning, Chesney has more than replaced the departing coaches.

I would say that this hire strongly suggests that HC has bumped up the compensation packages.

When you're the only sport among 27 on campus that actually puts out a very good product you deserve to be funded better than all others.

Not saying this isn't a good hire, but the biggest question is why have 4 coaches now left BC since their season ended... one went to Pitt, another to the Miami Dolphins and another to the Carolina Panthers... 2 went into pro coaching, 1 to Pitt (don't know enough to say this is a step up, lateral move or step down... while the 4th went from BC to HC (step down?)... again, not being sarcastic, hope he turns out to be a great addition to the staff... but ...

From Wiki Gunnell was a graduate assistant at Boston College, his alma mater. He coached at Marian High School in Framingham, Massachusetts, in 2014. Gunnell became the wide receivers coach for Boston College in the 2016 season. Gunnell was named interim head coach following the firing of Steve Addazio at the conclusion of the 2019 regular season.[8 Maybe the reason he is coming to HC is his friendship and mentorship with Kit from when ADKH was a grad assistant and coach at BC. en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rich_GunnellAlso, looking long term, the development of a succession plan within the staff with adding someone who has responsibilities for leading a program at one time, although briefly.

Looks like they would have only overlapped at BC for one season (2006). Can’t imagine that Gunnell, a freshman on the team, would have had much of a relationship with Kit Hughes who was earning his master’s degree at BC that season. Hughes then followed Tom O’Brien to NC State.

Maybe he just doesn't want to move his family from Mass?
But I don't think the reason really matters. The previous RB coach came from AIC (Apply In Crayon) -- I don't care if Grunnell was the worst assistant coach in the ACC, it's still a major upgrade.
This is an extremely impressive staff.

It’s all about the resume, I guess, in any sport, not what the coach’s skill level is.
I hope our new coach thrives at HC

I like Apply In Crayon as well. Both fitting.
Regarding Gunnell. I think it may have a lot to do with Hafley just wanting his own guys on the staff. He's a local guy - so there are only so many options for Gunnell around here to stay either FBS or FCS. Great pickup for HC. Hopefully he can go out and recruit well over the summer and get more talent here.

To your earlier question rgs. He’s on the coaching roster because none of its updated. All coaches who have left still there and seniors who aren’t returning still there.
Honestly - it’s foolish it’s not updated.
