If the resurgence of the HC men and continued success of the HC women isn't quite enough bb for you, take a look at nationally ranked WPI men (19-2). 4/5 starters from MA (5th from CT). The WPI women (17-3) aren't too shabby either. Both should qualify for D3 NCAAs.

WPI men's basketball has been consistently ranked in the D3 top 25 for years. Chris Bartley has built and sustained an outstanding program there.

WPI Men got an at-large berth in 2020 (lost to Coast Guard in the conference final). They ended up losing got Yeshiva that year who has the current top scorer in the ENTIRE country. I have linked a great story on Yeshiva's top scorer. www.nytimes.com/2022/02/04/sports/ncaabasketball/ryan-turell-yeshiva.html

Nice that some of the local schools are doing well. Somehow I have a sense that most people reading this board who happen to be up for a college basketball game in Worcester Saturday afternoon will choose a 3rd option

A few years ago Nichols moved their playoff game from their place to the Hart Center to a packed house that put our own “crowds” that year and ever since, to shame.
It was darn close to a Flannery-Willard Bucknell-Crusader atmosphere. (sigh!😣)

Only "close?" That is amazing. Sounds like it was quite an experience. Why can't we get fans like that....anymore?

I just was sharing in case people were looking for stuff to do. WPI is also likely to host next weekend a NCAA Regional.

I fondly remember the Worcester Auditorium being packed to the rafters when HC played. Having good teams and playing the "big boys" in the East had that effect. Regarding WPI, I've been following them for a while and this is the strongest team they have ever had. Size and good 3pt shooting.

I think HC students aren't really interested in mid major basketball.
When you drive up the hill to the games. How many students are playing basketball at the rec center. Always looks packed to me.
These D3 games have more students at them then students at the HART.
HC players need to push their friends to go watch them play.
There is no one solution.

I think HC students aren't really interested in bad mid major basketball. FIFY. If we are good, we'll draw some of the locals and students again.

Central Mass appears to be a fertile ground for Div III athletics. Success on the court, stands packed with student fans. HC, Div I , failure on the court, students are disinterested. Stands are almost totally empty. It can happen in Div III.

WPI will host a pod that includes Vassar, St Joseph-CT, and Penn St-Harrisburg. St Joe's is coached by former UPenn and Brown head coach Glen Miller. The Engineers will face Vassar in the first round. WPI should make for a good host as Harrington Auditorium is a decent venue for D3 (capacity of about 3k) and the school basically has two hotels on its campus as the Courtyard and Hampton Inn are surrounded by WPI buildings in the Gateway Park area.
Nichols will travel to Weslyan in CT to meet the upstate NY Engineers from RPI.

Miller is the coach of St. Joe's (CT) but it was coached by some Calhoun guy earlier this year. (Never heard of him before)

WPI playing at 6:20 tonight. Game on video if interested. Watching Johns Hopkins (with Lincoln Yuetter) right now. St. Joseph's (27-1) was defeated last night by Penn State Harrisburg; WPI's opponent this evening. Very high quality basketball being played.
