Something special apparently happened to our team on this date (day after the American game, and the day before the Lehigh game that started this run). I'm dying to know what happened at practice that day.
Did a player step up and make a Blutarsky like Call to Arms plea?
Did CBN read them the riot act?
Did CBN give them all a hug?
Something else?
It's just amazing given how they looked in the latter part of the AU game.
Go Cross Go!

Dave, you'll just have to seek out your "Deep Throat," perhaps in the garage down near Fitton.

Good question. One thing that appears to be happening is BN coaching guys really hard in game. I always felt you could do that when winning. When losing, laying in to players can come off as “blaming.” Especially “today’s” players.

Nelson was certainly coaching them "hard" in game that night.

He has coached them hard in every game I have seen in his 3 seasons.

Getting Gates more post touches Fewer players having significant shooting opportunities Giving more minutes to stronger defenders who may not have as solid offensive skills as others. Attempting fewer three point shots.

After the first timeout when HC is going to be on defense, go to a 1-3-1 zone for at least 2 possessions. Use this lineup:
On top: Luc Middle, left to right: Kenney, Lewis, Bubba Back: Townsel
Give GG a well deserved break for a couple of minutes. You turn Lehighl over, RUN RUN RUN.
I'll be there early tonight, coach, if you want to discuss further.

So, I’ve had this all wrong?
NAD is Nelson’s “Deep Throat?” 😂

Getting Gates more post touches Fewer players having significant shooting opportunities Giving more minutes to stronger defenders who may not have as solid offensive skills as others. Attempting fewer three point shots. Not releasing to head down court when the shot goes up. Continue to work the offensive possession. Emphasis on Offensive Rebounds. Defensive Focus on denying the shot. Block it

Question only, and of course one can say it is not always how you start but how you finish that matters…
I wonder where we might be If Nelson started and played the better defensive group (like he since the AU game) going back to his first season? Last year? This past November? As they say defense wins games, and until the past half dozen games it was a real weakness and the team wasn’t playing with much confidence.
Food for thought, with no real evidence available except the aggressiveness defensively has improved our play and if it was the initial focus how much better would we be today?
My guess is maybe 4-6 more wins in year one Last year the same number of wins maybe another 2 if all broke our way This year we might be around 16-18 for the season.
Again not meant to be a negative but interested in the view of others

Re: HC Defense
HC is 0-11 when our defensive efficiency is 110.0 or worse. A 110.0 def eff is equal to #315 in D-1
HC is 7-3 when our def efficiency is 104.0 or better. A 104.0 def eff is equal to #200 in D-1
We are 1-2 between those two numbers as we won the BU game with offense

I think there has been a huge focus on defending...Playing a few games, and winning with the best defenders on the court, has opened the players eyes as to what is needed to win college games today..Judson didn't get much time in a few games, and now he seems to be working harder on D...
The other thing I have noticed is the tempo of the offense has increased. Both in transition and in the half court, the ball doesn't get stuck very much any more, and players are shooting the ball with a lot of confidence. Not worried about "Is it a good shot to take?"
and lastly, I think the players have mentally adjusted to the speed of the college game..We don't see those lazy passes that led to steals and hoops any more. Players are ready to shoot when they recieve the ball and generally know where the ball is going. they don't have to think about it any more..Seeing it, watching it and reacting is too slow....Start seeing it and reacting is what we see now....I just hope we don't get burned by this schedule..No physical down time to let the body rest..
