you can go to the espn site for the entire article (believe you need the espn+ access) - I totally agree ! games are far too physical and the wrestling among bigs is crazy (with no whistles) - here's an excerpt from the article:
"Fouls called are at an all-time low this season. Given how ridiculously physical this game has become, that is impossible. Officials are either missing the fouls committed or ignoring them. And it is clearly the latter. Individual officials cannot and should not be blamed, as they are just doing what their bosses are allowing them to do. The fault lies with the administration of the game."

I go back to the game where Martindale faked out his man, who was behind him, the guy jumped up and landed on Judson's back. No foul called. How can the guy who didn't make the call (and, to some extent, his partners) sell that non-call to whoever evaluates him?

Bilas has become insufferable.
He should just start his own league if he's so smart and has all the answers about style of play, how bad the NCAA is, eligibility, paying players, etc. etc. etc.
Continuing to try and turn College Basketball into the unwatchable NBA brand of basketball is just horrible for the sport.
It's too bad because he used to be a great 3rd man along with Sean McDonough and Bill Raftery for Big Monday on ESPN -- by far the best announcing team in recent college basketball history.

How can the guy who didn't make the call (and, to some extent, his partners) sell that non-call to whoever evaluates him? I suspect the rationale was that Martindale had the most open 1-footer in the history of college basketball so the ref let it go rather than call the non-shooting foul. That backfired when Martindale missed the bunny.

IMO, a ref should not base foul calls (or non-calls) on what he thinks "may" happen next. That is a very slippery slope.

There's also the very liberal "continuation" standards of the NBA that have crept down to the lower levels that might have been applied in this case; i.e., call the foul, Martindale throws it up, it goes in, "and one!"; even though the shot would have come after the foul.
