On the one hand, the new coach is playing with the old coach's players. Not unexpected. On the other, our historically bright spot, Kelly Nelson, has been beaten up a bit. Patriot League is around the corner, let's see how it goes.

Yes, Nelson came back from SC with an 0-3 record while the team did pick up one win for a 1-4 trip - there is little difference in the level of talent from year to year and coach to coach, - our best two players (Nelson and catcher Bengston) are both seniors so this season might be better than others The league is very top heavy with BU throwing lots of aid at their recruits - the Terriers beat 18th ranked Georgia this weekend in Athens

The league is unbalanced with several schools not providing football, baseball, etc. It certainly places the Olympic sports at a disadvantage against their peers.

If the PL needed to give us a New England neighbor to balance adding Navy and American neighbor Loyola, Fairfield is farther away than BU but aligns more with our financial realities. BU not offering FB or Baseball is one advantage for the Terriers, and having 33,000 undergraduate and graduate students compared to 3000 students at HC means 30,000 extra tuition and fees to spread costs over. BU is probably a higher profile university than Fairfield but the amount of positive spin off that filters down to HC's benefit as a league partner is minimal. One positive would be if HC and BU can get into some PLT finals against each other, and the two SID staffs can work it hard, we could get some positive media coverage in the regional media that would be greater than say battling Bucknell or Colgate in a final.

While I really don't like BU in the Patriot League (no football but much more importantly, a HUGE university compared to the rest of the league). The "Turnpike Trophy" was a ridiculous concept but an apparent attempt to help bring BU into the fold, theoretically at least with Holy Cross.
That said, who is their inclusion a disaster for? BU? The league? Holy Cross?

Have not heard of the 'Turnpike Trophy' during this 2021-22 season - both sides could agree to drop it and I hope they did

They also beat Big 10 Purdue and Delaware on the weekend. Last weekend, they lost four games (two to each Notre Dame and Charlotte) but one game against each of them were one run games.

Who was the smart person to schedule number 3 Florida State on Wednesday? Probably the person who is smarter than some posters and understood it’s spring break and the team could make a southern trip and play a bunch of games in a week, including Wednesday, without a concern for missing classes.

Yea it is spring break so plenty of teams much closer athletically to them than a WCWS finalist and number 3 team in the country. You don't see the womens hoops team schedule UConn or South Carolina anymore. That is what this is...

Look at the rest of the schedule for the week.
And if your concern was FSU, why mention Wednesday?
A one off game against one of the best teams in your level of competition is a worst a venial sin.

I agree with Foley on this one - we are simply not equipped to compete against the best of college softball- we play two today against North Florida and those will probably be one-sided Guessing we will save our only legit D.1 pitcher Kelly Nelson (1-4 record this season) for FSU and hope to avoid embarrassment

It is the only top 25 team on the HC schedule all year! It will likely be a bloodbath tomorrow and doubt it goes regulation.

Our former head coach played for FSU and had/has a good relationship with their program. This was certainly scheduled while she was still at HC.
There is obviously the chance we'll get lit up. But even if we do and FSU goes to the WCWS again, there's something about having played them that our players will hold on to. The softball team has played other nationally ranked teams (versus Tennessee in 2014 comes to mind) and even though they lost that one 5-0, most of the players on that team were happy they did.

Nelson did pitch in the first game today and was strong - unfortunately we can't score (one run in our last four games) Lost 1-0 Not unusual for pitchers to start in consecutive days so she'll be out there tmro evening at FSU

We lost 1-0 on an inside the park home run to left-center? That's unusual.

After losing two yday vs N. Florida, we have some good news that rain has washed out today's game at FSU

I had Sportscenter on this morning and one of their Top 10 plays was from HC-Hartford softball yesterday. The HC player (I didn't hear who it was) hit a ball to deep center and the Hartford player made a spectacular catch. Always nice to see HC make Sportscenter.
