Who is providing the tickets? Athletics? Donors? PL? Correctly worn masks in this photo 0.0% Men and women for...a good time.😊 Here on LI we are ditching the mask mandates in schools tomorrow. Yes, 2,000 folks with Covid died yesterday in the US but the cause/effect not to mention benefit/cost on face coverings remains unexplored. The folks (not at risk and otherwise) are just done with it (as are the pols BTW) so the photo is no surprise.

I have heard that during the pandemic in Sweden no schools were closed, that students and teachers did not wear masks, and that no students have died from Covid. Can anyone confirm that?

I do know that many countries did the rational cost-benefit regarding closing schools and masking the little ones and erred on the safe side regarding intellectual/social/and psychological child development. Of course, no action in human endeavor is 100% without risk. Here in NY (minus NYC) tomorrow is the great unmasking of the school kids. Just a random 🤔Wednesday.

My only reason for jumping into this question about the 1-5 finish is I rarely believe things happen for a singular reason. Coaching certainly has to play a part....but if I was a betting man, I'd always favor teams with 4-5 guys that have played over 100 games vs. a team with 1. That's all.

So, NAD, consciously or not, you are comparing the Crusaders to a plane crash where it is often said that one never crashes due to one thing but rather a combination of factors.

Another way that I look at it: if you think back to how Keegan Records (3rd team PL) and Suk Mathon (PL POY) looked as freshmen, were they better players than Caleb Kenney is right now? I don't think so, but Caleb has to go up against the senior version of those 2 (that is, if he gets another chance to).

Mathon and Records are 6’10. Kenney is 6’6.
Don’t true centers and guys who are that big at our level take more time to develop?
I like Kenney’s potential, but — like Gates — he’s an undersized big man.

Mathon and his teammate McCoy are among 11 players profiled in an ESPN article on Super Seniors; guys who decided to remain with their school for their Covid year. A couple are what I guess you could call Super + Seniors; guys who are in year 6 with their original schools. I think those players sat out a year due to an injury. Walter Whyte at BU may be a 6 year guy next year. RJJ could be a 6 year guy if he receives a medical redshirt for this year. If that happens, his collegiate career hasn’t even begun in terms of NCAA eligibility.

Or maybe not................During the 4 months of pandemic exposure in Sweden (March through June 2020), there were 69 deaths among children 1 to 16 years of age. During the same 4 months in 2019, there were 55 deaths in that age group, and during the 4 months before the pandemic began (November 2019 through February 2020), there were 65 deaths. For children 1 to 6 years of age, the numbers were 18, 24, and 29 deaths, respectively, and for children 7 to 16 years of age, the numbers were 51, 31, and 36. During March through June 2020, none of the deaths among children 1 to 16 years old were reported as deaths from Covid-19. No doubt another big guy is needed with the next recruit, for sure....no matter who the coach is. What if a 6’5” forward who could shoot it wanted to come to HC this recruiting year. Would you pass him over with the one remaining schollie for a big who you hoped could contribute by year 3? My hypothetical small forward could step in and play tomorrow.

Records and Mathon's careers look different to me. Checking just one measure, Pomeroy's Offensive Efficiency, Mathon has seemed to follow that "takes time to develop" model
Mathon FR= 81.2 Played 27% of minutes SO= 88.9 41% JR=109.8 41% SR= 120.1 68% 2ND SR=121.8 this season playing 75% of minutes
Records, on the other hand, has posted extraordinary numbers from Day One,
Records FR= 129.0 playing 32% of minutes SO= 121.3 56% JR = 124.5 58% Maybe he has stamina issues, fouls a bit of an issue
Caleb is off to a good start--again just one measure
Kenney FR= 96.6 but note he has posted 100+ in 8 of last 9 games
Caveats: just one measure from one analyst--doesn't look at defense. Mathon had severe turnover problems his first two seasons and foul problems as well. Records has FG% numbers that are almost Floyd-like: .635 for his career (Floyd .659)

Best player available, please. Make the other team have to figure out how to guard 4 guys (plus Luc, hopefully) who are about the same height. Rabs and Louth are projects enough and there's a chance either or both will be around for 5 years; don't want one for another year.

His playing time was limited due to the presence of Ivanauskas and Rayman, but I remember how surprised I was by how well he played when he got the chance. He had a phenomenal offensive rebounding rate (14.7%) - which would have put him in the top 20 in the nation had his minutes been a bit higher.. Also hit 64% (66-104) from the field and had an extremely high rate of blocked shots. His Pomeroy ORating was off the charts at 129.1.

I should have added "that can play right away". I think I've mentioned this before, but I ideally would love to see someone in the 6-8/6-9 range, athletic, capable of guarding both the 4 and 5 positions. Someone that can put it on the floor, but also spot up and hit a mid range jumper. In other words, someone that is probably out of reach.
