Watching the replay of last night's upset of Gonzaga by St. Mary's. Electric atmosphere at the 3,500 seat McKeon Pavilion.

Great game. Watched the long recap. St Mary’s was ranked 23. And Holmgren wasn’t the only terrific player out there.

Not very familiar with St. Mary's (did we play them in football one year?) but someone enlighten me what they have that Holy Cross doesn't. I don't mean now because I know we need a new coach to win, but institutionally, what do they have that we don't?

C'mon, KY, you can do better than that . . . . . at least run the AI up the flagpole!

Just watched the video clip. Appears St. Mary's has two things we don't:
1. a kid with a shaved head and a beard 2. players that can consistently hit the open 3
Oh, wait. Austin Lewis has a beard and a close-to shaved head and it looks like he might be able to hit an open 3.
Seriously, that was a great game. Just wow.

1. Randy Bennett - An experienced Head Coach at the same school for 21 years. 2. Eight International Players (Half of the Roster) 3. A Cousy. Actual Tommy Kuhse. Last name pronounced the same as the Hodini of the Hardwood. 4. A graduate student. Tommy Kuhse.
What they clearly don’t have from my time in Moraga, is better facilities than HC. They are still seeking funding to remodel the former McKeon.Pavillion.
Yes, HC played football against St.Mary’s twice in this century, last in 2002, before they dropped football.

I don't mean now because I know we need a new coach to win, but institutionally, what do they have that we don't? A Catholic School League to play in? Catholic Schools have traditionally been strong BB schools, right? Actually, I am a PL guy but admire what the WCC has put together.

Thanks. That was my recollection but, frankly, too busy (lazy, more like it) to look it up. Also too lazy to look it up but believe we lost both games and fairly close losses. Think that was a reason TG felt those trips to the west coast weren't worth it as apparently he felt the long plane trip was tiring (huge players in small coach seats don't help) and lost games we might have won at home or a closer venue. Think he overlooked the "getting the Holy Cross name out" piece of it but that always works better when you win.

HC beat St. Mary’s in Worcester on 10/12/2002 by a score of 24-22.
For some reason, I thought we’d also played them in Moraga.
HC did play University of San Diego twice, when Jim Harbaugh coached the Toreros.

Yesterday was the first time the top 6, and 7 out of the top 10 teams all lost on the same day. They were all on the road.

Not quite twice in this century, however..... twice relatively recently.
Holy Cross Football played two very close game with St. Mary’s.
Losing on October 30, 1999, in Moraga, CA by a score of 28-26.
Then Winning in Worcester, MA, October 12, 2002, by a score of 24-22.
Somehow HC should adapt the motto “Holy Cross, Winning in Worcester”. Sounds catchy. 🤔

I wonder if the Hart Center is a few feet over the Auburn line.😊

That is the same NCAA rule that ultimately destroyed MAAC football. Schools that played football in the MAAC included Siena, Canisius, Saint peters, Marist, Fairfield, Iona, Duquesne, Saint John’s, La Salle and Georgetown. Three of the 10 still have football, playing in three different conferences.

What is the reasoning behind the rule ?

What is the reasoning behind the rule ? As I recall, many D3 schools complained about D1 schools being allowed to play D3 football. They claimed that the D1 schools had greater resources and greater name recognition, which gave them a significant advantage when it came to recruiting and running a program.

FCS Football is quite an Institutional Investment. Thanks HC and the PL.

In other action, Bellarmine University, a small Catholic college here in Louisville, won the ASUN conference championship in its second year in Division-1. I don't think the school is allowed to be in NCAA Tournament for another few years. Great program-former D-2 national champions (2011?)- I wish Scotty Davenport was HC coach

Wagner-Bryant NEC Final had a fan brawl. Both teams left court. Was watching. Kind of surprised this doesn't happen more often in these small gyms. Small pocket of Wagner fans (guessing mostly parents) totally surrounded by Bryant students. I'm also guessing the students were not being gracious winners as the rout neared the end. Thought Coach Mason of Wagner would not bring his team back to finish the game, but he did. It was bizarre - both teams just totally going through the motions for 4 minutes, just to get it over as quickly as possible.
